BOOKING MASSES: Those who wish to book a mass for any particular occasion, can do so by calling to the sacristy before or after any weekday or weekend mass. The diaries for the masses are always kept in the sacristy.
CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF FAITH: You are invited to a day of prayer at Knock Shrine on Saturday February 2 from 10am until 5pm. The day will include Rosary, Adoration and Mass, and talks on various topics will be given by Fr.Killian Byrne, Foyers of Charity. BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires three thousand donations this week, and clinics will be held at the following locations to facilitate that requirement: South Court Hotel, Raheen Roundabout, on Monday January 28 from 5 to 8pm, Kilmurry Lodge Hotel, Castletroy, on Wednesday January 30 from 5 to 8pm, and at Scoil Dean Cussen, Bruff, on Thursday January 31, from 6 to 9pm.

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY: This Sunday, January 27, is the international memorial day honouring the millions of victims of the Holocaust, and is the date in 1945, when the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated bySoviet troops. The word holocaust is of Greek origin meaning whole and burnt. In Hebrew it is known as The Shoah which translates as catastrophe, and in Yiddish, churben or hurban which translates to destruction.
TIDY TOWNS: Following on from the early clean up of the Croom Road, two members decided to tackle the Limerick Road last Monday, such was the state of the approach to the village. The operation took them almost two hours, during which time six large refuse sacks were filled to capacity, and not in ideal conditions either. Having to undertake such work so early into the year is an indication of how big a problem littering has become, and the time that will be needed to address it, time which could be spent on far more productive and useful activity. Would members please attend a meeting next Tuesday, January 29, at 8pm in the Cu Chulainn.
UPSKILLING IN BROADCASTING TRAINING: Those interested in becoming a volunteer broadcaster at West Limerick 102 Community Radio are now invited to take part in a dedicated 12 week training programme to develop the skills to produce and present high quality programming for the community station. Topics will include Role of Community Radio, Radio Presenting, Researching for Radio, The Role of the Producer, Technical Skills and News & Current Affairs. Course Free of Charge. FACILITATOR TRAINING:
West Limerick Resources will be offering a part-time course for those interested in becoming a play and learning facilitator. The four month course will take place each Friday from 9.30am-12.30pm until the end of May in Newcastle West beginning February 1st. There will be an information session for interested participants this Friday January 19th at 11a.m. in the Newcastle West Community Centre. Course free of charge to individuals living in the West Limerick area. Limited places available. LOUGH GUR BIRD WATCH: The next meeting of the Limerick branch of Birdwatch Ireland, will be held this coming Saturday, January 26, commencing at 2pm at Lough Gur car park. This is an important wintering location for many species of resident and visiting waterfowl. Suitable clothing is recommended, especially strong walking shoes, plus binoculars, but no dogs please. THE GATHERING: As its contribution to The Gathering, Patrickswell Community Council is hoping to publish a booklet at the end of March, which will chronicle events from past times in the Patrickswell area. If anyone has any items such as school photographs, stories and history of school, births, deaths and marriages, anything regarding emigration, sporting occasions, dances, festivals, poems and songs, and anything else interesting or unusual from the past which might be worthy of inclusion. which they would like to submit for the publication, please give them in at the Resource Centre or email them to patrickswellcrc@gmail.com
MONSTER 45 DRIVE: Knockainey National School Fundraising Committee is running a monster 45 Drive this Sunday, January 27 at the Community Centre commencing at 8:30pm. There will also be a raffle, time for a cup of tea and a chat after, and all proceeds will go towards the school development. A draw will take place for those who buy tickets and do not attend.
