GRANAGH PLAYERS: Granagh Players are about to unleash another production on the public, performing London Assurance by Dion Boucicault, having already performed his play The Shaughraun in 2011, although London Assurance has never been performed in Ireland before. The play is set in Gloucestershire of the 1840’s, where the puffed-up and past-it Sir Harcourt Courtly is about to be married to Grace Harkaway forty years his junior. The unlikely marriage is prompted by a complex land settlement, by which Sir Harcourt is about to gain a pretty young wife as well a substantial inheritance. Distraction presents itself in the form of Lady Gay Spanker, a strapping country lady, who looks like the horses she rides. Meanwhile the son Charles turns up, fleeing from his debts, along with a mysterious but charismatic companion Dazzle, but happens to fall in love with his father’s bride-to-be, causing all kinds of problems. The play will be staged at Granagh Community Centre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday January 18,19,20, 25,26 and 27 at 8pm.
Admission will be Adults €10, Teens €5, there will be a shop and raffle each night, and tickets will be available on the door.
