CHURCH NOTICES: Listed readers for this weekend, December 22-23, The Fourth Sunday of Advent Year C, are as follows; Saturday at 7pm Joanne Tierney, Sunday at 10am James McCarthy, Sunday at 12noon Joe Tierney. EXPOSITION: There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Prayer Room this Friday December 21 from 7 to 9pm allowing the opportunity for some time of quiet prayer in the hectic days leading up to Christmas.

CONFESSIONS: There will be confessions in Ballybrown Church this Saturday December 22 from 11am until 11-45am, and in Patrickswell Church from 12noon until 1pm.

PRAYER MEETINGS: There will be no prayer meetings on Monday December 24 or 31.

CHRISTMAS MASSES: Monday December 24,Christmas Eve Mass, The Nativity of our Lord, will be celebrated in the church of The Blessed Virgin, Patrickswell at 9pm, Eucharistic Ministers, Maria Bucke, Christy Murphy, Kathleen Enright. There will be no morning mass on Christmas Eve. Mass on Christmas Day, The Nativity of Our Lord, and a Holy Day of Obligation will be at 10am, Eucharistic Ministers, Louise Carey, Eileen Nally, Patricia Barry, and 12noon, Eucharistic Ministers, Mary Enright, Rose Kelliher, Rita Madigan. Mass in Ballybrown on Christmas Eve will be at 9pm and on Christmas Day at 11am. 

DECEMBER 29-30: Listed readers for the last weekend in December, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30, The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are as follows, Saturday at 7pm Joanne Tierney, Sunday at 10am James McCarthy, Sunday at 12noon Joe Tierney. Eucharistic Ministers, Saturday at 7pm, Michael Houlihan, John Collopy, Maria Bucke. Sunday at 10am, Kathleen Enright, Sam Milburn, Joanne Tierney. Sunday at 12noon, Michael McDermott, Eileen O’Shea, Louise Carey.

 

NEW YEAR’S DAY: Tuesday January 1 is The Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, and mass will be celebrated at 10am. It is also the celebration of the 46th World Day of Peace. The Holy Father Benedict XVI has chosen the theme, “Blessed are the peacemakers”, to encourage everyone to take responsibility with regard to peace building.

REMEMBRANCE TREE: The remembrance tree is now in place for all those who wish to remember their loved ones who have died, those who are sick or in hospital, those who will be away from home for Christmas, or those we would like to remember for any other special reason. Simply write their names on the tags provided and hang them on the tree so that they can all be kept in our thoughts and prayers during the Christmas season.


BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will continue to require donations during the festive period, and donor clinics will be held at the following locations to facilitate that requirement, South Court Hotel, Raheen Roundabout on Thursday December 27, from 2 to 5pm, and Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road, on Friday December 28, also from 2 to 5pm. The following week there will be a donor clinic in Cappamore Community Centre on Wednesday January 2, 2013, from 6 to 9pm, and at
Askeaton Community Centre on Thursday January 3 also from 6 to 9pm.
You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. For more information contact the Donor Information Line on 1850 731137, or their website.

CREDIT UNION: The opening hours for MPCC Credit Union over the Christmas period will be as follows. Normal opening hours on Friday, December 21 & Saturday, December 22. All offices will remain closed from Monday, December 24 to Thursday, December 27 inclusive. Normal opening hours on Friday, December 28 & Saturday, December 29. Dooradoyle will be open from 10am to 2pm on Monday, December 31. Normal opening hours will resume on Wednesday, January 2. GOLF SOCIETY: Patrickswell Golf Society would like to wish all its members and their families and all their sponsors and supporters a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a very prosperous new year. Our A.G.M. should be held early in the New Year where all our plans for 2013 will be announced. Watch these notes for more information. Congratulations to our Captain Ger Considine and our President Jim O’Grady on a very successful year in 2012, and also Frankie Nolan who won our Golfer of the Year competition.

 

COMMUNITY COUNCIL: Patrickswell Community Council will hold its AGM on Tuesday January 8 at 8pm in the Community Resource Centre. All are welcome to attend.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION: Members wish to convey their good wishes to all for Christmas and the New Year. The first meeting for 2013 will be on Thursday January 10.

COMMUNITY PLAYSCHOOL: All who use and organise the Community Playschool, wish to acknowledge the generosity of all who supported the recent coffee morning and cake sale on December 9, and for all the support received during the year.

TIDY TOWNS: Members gathered for their annual Christmas night out last Saturday in the upstairs room of the Cú Chulainn. All were in festive mood and enjoyed the good food, good company and great craic, all of which were in abundance, followed by dancing to keep the party spirit going. We thank everyone for their support during the year, and extend sincere greetings to all for Christmas and the New Year.

NEW YEAR NOTES: As these are the last notes of 2012, I (Sam Milburn) would like to thank all the PRO’s, secretaries and correspondents of the various community groups for supplying their news and articles on a regular basis, enabling me to compile a fairly comprehensive and informative feature week by week. Please note that the first notes for 2013 will be the issue dated January 5, which will need to be forwarded to me by Sunday December 31. In wishing you all a Very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year, I urge you to heed the following seasonal safety advice from the Fire Service; Turn off all Christmas tree lights and unplug them before going to bed, and if the room will be left unattended for lengthy periods, Do not overload sockets, Do not leave lit candles unattended, Keep open fires well guarded, Ensure all cigarettes are extinguished and disposed of safely, Ensure smoke alarms are working and don’t use their batteries to power any Christmas presents, and finally it is not too late to have the chimney swept ready for Santa’s arrival.
