This Friday, October 5 is First Friday, and there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 9-30 mass until 11am. Communion will be distributed to the sick. If you know of anyone who is sick or housebound who would like communion brought to them please hand in their names to the sacristy. Items for the weekly Parish Newsletter should be handed into the sacristy by 9-30am on Friday mornings or contact Fr. Muiris O’Connor on 353711 or 0866075628. DAY FOR LIFE: The annual Day for Life will be celebrated this coming Sunday, October 7, and will mark the beginning of a special month of Prayer dedicated to the theme, “Choose Life”.
BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires three thousand donations this week and donor clinics will be held at the following locations; Caherconlish Community Centre on Monday October 8 from 6 to 9pm, the South Court Hotel, Raheen Roundabout, on Wednesday October 10 from 5 to 8pm, and Knockainey Community Centre on Thursday October 11 from 6 to 9pm.You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. There will be donor clinics in Caherdavin, Mulgrave Street and Pallasgreen the following week. For more information contact the Donor Information Line on 1850 731137, or their website.

GOLF SOCIETY: Congratulations to Frankie Nolan who won our Golfer of the Year award last week at our outing in Salthill Golf Club, and not Ger Considine which was erroneously reported last week. This award is presented to the golfer who plays the most consistent good golf throughout the year over our seven outings. Ger  was Frankie’s nearest rival with the gap between them just three points, in a closely fought contest all year round. Once again congratulations Frankie.

CREDIT UNION: MPCC Credit Union, in conjunction with Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week, will be hosting a fundraising breakfast event in its Dooradoyle office on the morning of Friday, October 12. Similar events will be held in other credit union offices in Limerick, Tipperary and Clare to raise vital funds for Childline. Everyone is invited to come along to join in the fun and contribute to this very worthy cause. Be sure to bring a friend.

COFFEE MORNING TOTAL: The coffee morning held recently at the Cu Chulainn raised a total of 1350Euro for the Limerick Live 95fm appeal for Cari and the Childrens’ Ark Project, and many thanks to all concerned for a splendid result.

TIDY TOWNS: At the September meeting the group discussed the adjudicator’s report from the National Tidy Towns competition. The results of the Limerick in Bloom competition will hopefully be known sometime this month, and we will wait for the report from that competition before we decide on our strategy for next year. Our annual table quiz will take place at the Cu Chulainn on Friday October 26. Will all members please note that the October meeting will be held on the Tuesday before the quiz, October 23 at 8pm.

BOXERCISE: Boxercise classes run every Thursday evening from 7.30-8.30 in Adare Community Hall. All fitness levels catered for. For more info contact John on 087-9115411

FITNESS CLASS: Zumba classes take place every Tuesday evening from 8 to 9pm in the GAA Hall. Call or text now to join, with a  special offer for 6 classes. No experience is necessary, and the exercise is suitable for adults of all ages. For further details please contact Cathriona on 087 3261989.

SALE OF WORK: Pallaskenry Community Council will hold its annual sale of work in the Community Centre this Sunday, October 7 commencing at 2-30pm. There will be the usual range of stalls including a BBQ, wheel of fortune, cakes, books, bric-a-brac and produce. Pallaskenry Communtiy Centre has recently undergone an extensive renovation and the community are working hard towards their financial contribution. Any support would be greatly appreciated, and a grand afternoon’s entertainment is promised.

IRELAND REACHING OUT: West Limerick Resources will be rolling out a special local heritage training initiative entitled “My People, My Place, My Heritage” this Autumn and is now registering participants. This training is designed to support local communities that are interested in getting involved in Ireland Reaching Out and or the Gathering 2013. Ireland Reaching Out is a national initiative which encourages communities to invite its diaspora to renew links with the local community, including paying a return visit. This training initiative will cover topics including local built heritage, natural heritage and biodiversity and genealogy and will give communities the skills to develop local involvement and initiatives. Training is free of charge and will take place in Newcastle West starting Monday October 8th at 7.30pm.  The course will run for seven weeks and participants are expected to complete the full course. ORGAN CONCERT: Glenstal Abbey is the venue for an organ concert on Sunday October 14 in support of the Medical Missionaries of Mary. Bruno Oberhammer, an Austrian professor of organ composition will perform works by Brahms and Schumann to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the order. Admission is free, but voluntary contributions will be accepted to support the mission in South Sudan  


WORLD DAYS: Next Wednesday, October 10 is World Mental Health Day, which promotes global mental health education, awareness and advocacy.This annual awareness programme is designed to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on peoples' lives worldwide. A free public lecture will take place at the University of Limerick from 4 to 7pm. Places must be booked by Tuesday October 9 at http://www.psychologicalsociety.ie/page/all-events/71
