GOLF SOCIETY: Congratulations to Jim O’Grady on his very successful President’s Day, which was held in the wonderful surroundings of Galway Golf Club in Salthill. Jim was very deserving of the office of president, for he has been a very staunch supporter of the society down through the years. Indeed he must have a personnel hot line to the man above because the weather on the day was what you would only expect in the south of Spain, and not the West of Ireland on an autumn day. Good scores were at a premium with the course playing very long and fantastic slick greens the order of the day. The man who came out on top was Kieran Carroll with a fine score of 35 playing off a handicap of 9. The results were as follows
Ist Kieran Carroll 35points, 2nd Diarmud Bucke 34points, 3rd Jimmy McCarthy 34points, Gross Timmie Sheehan, 5th John McDermott 33points, 6th Padraig Mann 31points, 7th Declan O’Grady 29points, 8th Tom Dundon 28points. Front 9 Natal O’Grady 17points, Back9 John Deegan 15points. Longest Drive, Mark Leahy, and Nearest the Pin Ger Considine. Well done also to Ger Considine for becoming Golfer of the Year in his year as captain. This outing brought the curtain down on our very successful season with our membership and attendances at our outings staying well up. Congratulations to all the winners and to all others there is always next year. Well done to Jim O’Grady(President) and Ger Considine(Captain) on a very successful year in office. Thanks to our sponsor John McDermott on the day, and also to all our sponsors down through the years, a special word of thanks. Next year the society will be celebrating twenty one years in existence. We will be marking the occasion with a raft of celebrations planned.

COFFEE MORNING: Along with many other towns and villages in the city and county, the community responded well, as it always does, to a request from Limerick Live 95fm to support its fund raising for the Cari Foundation, and the Childrens’ Ark Project at the Regional Hospital. The GAA was the initial contact, and on Sunday morning the girls from the Camogie Club had organised and ran a very successful coffee morning and cake sale, which took place at the Cu Chulainn. It was very well supported, and the tables were groaning with a mouthwatering array of home baking items of all descriptions, all generously donated, and which were eagerly snapped up by patrons. A raffle which was generously subscribed to by the local businesses, swelled the coffers, and over one thousand euro was raised for the 95fm appeal. A smaller event took place on Monday morning, and proceeds are still being counted. Heartfelt thanks to Christy, Tom and John of the Cu Chulainn for hosting the event at short notice, and to all who contributed to a very successful and worthwhile venture. Cari is an organisation which provides therapy to children who have experienced sexual abuse, and support services, including family counselling. The Childrens’ Ark helps to make their stay in hospital a happier, less traumatic and more relaxing experience.
