Patrickswell news for w/e September 7th.


CHURCH NOTICES: Listed readers for this weekend, September 8-9, The Twentythird Sunday in Ordinary Time are as follows; Saturday at 7pm Eimear Foley, Sunday at 10am Sam Milburn, Sunday at 12noon Joanne Tierney. Eucharistic Ministers,Saturday at 7pm, Christy Murphy, Rita Madigan, Joe Tierney. Sunday at 12noon, Patrick Kirby, Rose Kelliher, Rita Madigan. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place on Monday at 8pm and all are welcome. This Friday, September 7 is First Friday, and there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 9-30 mass until 11am. Communion will be distributed to the sick. If you know of anyone who is sick or housebound who would like communion brought to them, please hand in their names to the sacristy. Items for the weekly Parish Newsletter should also be handed into the sacristy by 9-30am on Friday mornings or contact Fr. Muiris O’Connor on 353711 or 0866075628. YEAR OF FAITH: October 11 marks the commencement of a Year of Faith, which has been designated by Pope Benedict XVI. This date also marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council. The Year of Faith will conclude on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King. An apostolic letter for the Year of Faith, Porta Fidei, has been issued, and can be accessed by logging on to the Vatican website.
BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service especially requires O+, O- A+ & A- donations again this week and a donor clinic will be held at the Southcourt  Hotel, Raheen Roundabout, next Wednesday, September 12 from 5 to 8pm.You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. TIDY TOWNS: We are already being asked how did we do in the competitions this year, but it’s too early to speculate as judging only finished at the end of August. It is heart warming all the same, that people are interested in the outcome of our efforts, and we have been encouraged all season long by the many complimentary remarks that we have received both directly and indirectly from people near to home and further afield, all in agreement that the village has been looking superb this year. As soon as any results are known, we will publicise them in these notes, the weekly parish newsletter and the monthly community newsletter, and thank you for your interest.    

ELECTRICITY INTERRUPTION: There will be an interruption to the electricity supply in the Killonahan area next Tuesday September 11, from 9am until 5pm. This is to facilitate an upgrade to the network.

TOASTMASTERS: Limerick Toastmasters is a voluntary organisation with a focus on helping ordinary people build selfconfidence by learning and practicing the public speaking skills required to effectively express themselves at interviews, meetings, presentations, negotiations and social occasions. The club’s workshop meeting is in the Arthur Room, on the second floor at the Savoy Hotel, Henry Street, Limerick city, at 7-45pm on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, from September to May. CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING: West Limerick Resources is seeking expressions of interest from individuals and members of community groups who would be interested in taking part in the Keeping Safe Child Protection Training Programme with the HSE.  Should sufficient interest be identified it is hoped to offer this training in Newcastle West at the end of September, at a time and date to be confirmed. SCHOOLS PHOTOGRAHY COMPETITION: West Limerick Tourism in conjunction with SuperValu is currently running a schools photography competition for students of secondary schools based in the West Limerick area. There are five entry categories, with a maximum of two entries per category per student allowed. Entry to the competition is free. THE SWITCH TO DIGITAL: Those who receive their television signal from an aerial must take action before October 24 or risk their screen going blank when Ireland makes the switch to digital television.  As part of a national switchover week running September from 17 to 23, a series of information events will be taking place across the West Limerick area for those seeking further advice and guidance.  Details to be announced shortly.  For further information on the Community Outreach Digital Switchover Programme contact Clint at West Limerick Resources on 069 62222.

BOSCO TEA PARTY: The Parents Association of  the Salesian Secondary College, Pallaskenry, have organized  a “Bosco” Tea Party to raise funds for the school, on Friday  October 5, 2012, in the school hall at 8pm. A table of 8 costs €100.  The host invites their guests to attend. You and your guests bring their own food, drinks, cutlery, glasses and we will provide tables, the atmosphere and live music entertainment. A great night is guaranteed to be had by all. The theme of the night is Country and Western so dress code is denim or casual.  Horses can be left outside the hall.  CHARITY CYCLE: The fifth annual charity cycle for the Cliona Ring Foundation, will take place at Lough Gur, this Saturday September 8, with guest cyclist and champion jockey, Davey Russell. The cycle starts at 10am from the Honeyfitz theatre, and registeration is from 8-30am unti 9-45am. There will be three routes, 70km,  40km and a family route of 8km. Food and refreshments provided.
