VOCATIONS: A three hour prayer vigil for vocations organised by St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society will be held in St. Nessan’s Church, Raheen, this Saturday April 28. The vigil will commence with Concelebrated Mass at 6pm and conclude with Benediction at 9pm. You are invited to participate in all or any part of the session.

BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires three thousand donations every week, especially 0+, A+, 0-, A- and B- blood groups again, and a donor clinic will be held at the Greenhills Hotel, Caherdavin, next Tuesday May 1 from 6 to 9pm.You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. There will be donor clinics in Askeaton and Raheen the following week. For more information contact the Donor Information Line on 1850 731137, or their website.

TIDY TOWNS: The appalling weather conditions of last Tuesday stopped us in our tracks and interrupted our weekly work schedule. Conditions were much calmer however on Wednesday morning and we were able to complete the task of clearing litter from the grounds of the old barracks, or the old credit union building as it also known. We are aware that it is a listed building, and therefore restricted to what can be done to improve its appearance, but we are in contact with the credit union regarding this. They will advise us after the next board meeting. As we are entering the national Tidy Towns Competition for the first time this year, it is important to tidy up as many areas as possible, other than having the normal litter free status the judges will be looking for, and the usual floral schemes. We are very grateful for the recent generous donation of supplies from the O’Connell family at Crecora Mills, which will help us in our work during the season.

ADVERTISING PATRICKSWELL: It was good to see the full page of local businesses promoting Patrickswell in a very positive light in last week’s Leader, informing the wider community of what services are available here. They are always very supportive of all the community groups in Patrickswell, and in turn are worthy of our support, especially in the current economic climate. Please support the local businesses whenever you have the opportunity.

TEA DANCE: The Tea Dance in aid of the Alzheimer’s Day Centre in Adare, which is being organised by the Active Retirement Association, takes place this Sunday in the GAA Hall, Patrickswell from 3 to 6pm. Tickets are only 5Euro per person, with local band Free Beer providing the music. There will also be plenty of spot prizes on offer. Your support for this venture would be very much appreciated, so please come along and enjoy an afternoon with a difference.

FOCUSING: Would you like to reduce stress, make clear decisions, be happier and more connected with yourself and others? These are some of the benefits of Focusing. An introductory focusing course takes place in Limerick on the five Thursdays from May 10 until June 7. Contact Martina on 087-6623913 or Tom on 067-27105 for more details.

CROSSROADS DANCING:  Following the great success of Guerin’s Platform Revival last September, the local committee in Kilcornan have settled on Sunday May 13 for the next event. This would be the nearest Sunday to the old traditional date for the Fair of Stonehall.  Dancing begins at 3 pm with local musicians, singers and dancers. All are welcome.

BEALTAINE: Next Tuesday is the first day of May, and marks the start of the month long Bealtaine Festival which is being co-ordinated by Age & Opportunity, the Irish national organisation working to promote greater participation by older people in society. Check out the Age & Opportunity web site. This year’s festival theme is “What kind of old do you want to be?” and  “what kind of world do you want to grow older in?” It recognises that older people are not one general group, but are individuals with widely differing talents, interests and needs. A range of cultural, art based, and physical activities are planned all around the country. In Limerick city and county various events will be taking place at the Belltable, Friar’s Gate, the Hunt Museum, and libraries. Log on to the festival website for more information and up to date details.

ZUMBA CLASSES:  Zumba classes are held in Patrickswell GAA Hall every Tuesday from 8 to 9pm. Call or text now to join our super fun 'Summer Fit' course, only eight euro per class, or avail of a special offer on a bundle of six classes. No experience is necessary, and the activity is suitable for adults of all ages. For further details please contact Cathriona on 087 3261989.

TIDY TOWNS NETWORK MEETING: West Limerick Resources are inviting Tidy Towns groups based in the area to attend the first meeting of a new West Limerick Tidy Towns Network this Thursday April 26 at 7.30pm in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West, located beside the fire station, to meet their recently appointed Environmental Enhancement Animator who will be working to enhance Tidy Towns programmes and develop suitable projects that could be funded under the Rural Development Programme over the next six months.
