LÁ ´le PÁDRAIG: Masses for St.Patrick’s Day, a holy day of obligation, will be celebrated at the following times, Vigil Mass Friday March 16 at 7pm, Eucharistic Ministers, Joe Tierney, Maria Bucke and Mary Bennis, and Saturday March 17, morning mass at 10am, Eucharistic Ministers, Eileen O’Shea, Patrick Kirby and Christy Murphy. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh.

CHURCH NOTICES: Eucharistic Ministers, for this weekend March 17-18, The Fourth Sunday of Lent, are as follows, Saturday at 7pm, Mary Collins, Mary Bennis, Breda Carroll, Sunday at 10am, Michael O’Mara, Mary Enright, Michael Punch, Sunday at 12noon, Seamus Enright, Patricia Barry, Rory Bennis. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. The rota for eucharistic ministers to the end of April, including all the Easter services is now available from the sacristy. Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30am Monday to Friday, but there will be no morning mass this Friday, March 16. The weekly prayer meeting takes place at 8 pm on Monday and all are welcome. Items for inclusion in the weekly Parish Newsletter should be handed into the sacristy by 9-30am on Friday or contact Fr. Muiris O’Connor on 353711 or 0866075628. EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: There will be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament this Saturday, St.Patrick’s Day, but there will be on Sunday after the 10am mass.

MEDJUGORJE PILGRIMAGE: The West Limerick Medjugorje Prayer Group based in Newcastle West is organising a pilgrimage to Medjugorje from July 28 to  August 4.This is their 20th yearly pilgrimage. Booking is for one week, bed and breakfast  and evening dinner. All welcome. The cost is €649, ex Dublin, including insurance. CRAIC AGUS CEOL: An Irish night of music and song is taking place in the Lough Gur Heritage Centre, this Sunday March 18 at 8pm. For bookings call 061 385386 or 087 2852022. A great night out guaranteed.

VOLUNTEERING IN INDIA: Gráinne O' Connor is an enterprising nineteen year old young lady from Meanus. This summer, she will be spending ten weeks from June 5 to August 17 volunteering in India with Suas Educational Development,  www.suas.ie. This organisation works to provide high quality education to underprivileged children in India, Kenya and Ireland. She will be teaching children in a school in the slums of South-East Calcutta. Before she goes however, she will need to raise €3,000. As part of her fundraising, she is organising a G.A.A. table quiz at Derry's Bar in Bruff, on Thursday  March 22 at 9pm. The quizmaster will be Mike Weekes, and a table of four will be €20. If you can’t support the quiz, maybe you would consider sending her a donation in support of her very noble gesture. DAFFODIL DAY: The Irish Cancer Society is celebrating the 25th birthday of Daffodil Day, which this year is being held next Friday March 23. The society needs volunteers to assist on the day in any way they can, to show solidarity and support for people and families across the country affected by cancer, as Ireland has one of the highest cancer rates in the world. Daffodil Day is an occasion for the nation to wear daffodil flowers or  pins and raise important funds for cancer nursing  and information to continue to support and care for those who so badly need their services. To mark the occasion extra merchandise will be available this year including gold pins, shopping bags, mouse mats, teddy bears, and tea towels, as well as the usual items of fresh and silk daffodils, and memo pads. As this is the society’s major fund raiser any support would be greatly appreciated. This year’s target is three and a half million euro. WORLD DAYS: Wednesday March 21 is recognized by the United Nations as The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and commemorates the death of sixty nine people in the Sharpeville massacre of 1960.  The day aims to remind people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It also encourages people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination. The same day is also World Poetry Day, declared by UNESCO since 1999 to promote the worldwide reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry,
It is also an opportunity for children to be introduced to poetry in classrooms, to examine poets and learn about the many different types of poetry.

WEST LIMERICK DRAMA INITIATIVE: Those currently involved with community drama or those interested in getting involved are being invited to take part in a short acting and performance skills training workshop which will take place in Knockaderry on Saturday March 24 and 31 from 10am to 4pm each day. Supported by West Limerick Resources the training is free of charge and will cover a wide range of acting and on-stage skills.  All levels of experience catered for. KILMEEDY HORTICULTURE  LTI: Participants are sought for the 2012 Kilmeedy Horticulture Local Training Initiative which  will commence on April 10 The fully accredited 48 week FETAC level 5 course will run until March 8 2013 and there are 20  places available. GLIN TOURISM & HERITAGE COURSE:
Glin Development Association plans to run a further full-time adult training course at St. Paul’s Heritage Centre in Glin in 2012. The full-time FAS funded FETAC course includes modules in Tourism, Heritage, Web Authoring, Business Administration and Computer Studies and will run for 30 weeks. This Local Training Initiative (LTI) programme will be offered free of charge to all participants. VOLUNTEER ENGLISH LANGUAGE TUTORS NEEDED:
Volunteer English Language Tutors are required for conversational English classes for migrants in Newcastle West. The tutor will work with small groups and/or on a one-to-one basis with students in a community setting. Training and teaching materials will be provided. Beginning in April, tutors will work with the students for one session per week. Qualities required include patience, reliability and the ability to guide and explain and encourage learners.
