CHURCH NOTICES:
Listed readers for this weekend February 4-5, The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, and for the remainder of the month are as follows, Saturday at 7pm Joanne Tierney, Sunday at 10am James McCarthy, Sunday at 12noon Joe Tierney. Eucharistic Ministers, Saturday at 7pm, Mary Collins, Mary Bennis, Breda Carroll, Sunday at 10am, Michael O’Mara, Mary Enright, Michael Punch, Sunday at 12noon, Seamus Enright, Patricia Barry, Rory Bennis. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place at 8 pm on Monday and all are welcome. This Thursday, February 2 is The Feast of the Presentation of The Lord, Candlemas Day, which marks the end of the Christmas Festival of Light, and candles will be blessed before the 9-30am mass. This Friday February 3, is the Feast of St.Blaise and First Friday, but there will be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament due to the ongoing renovations. Communion will be distributed to the sick. If you know of anyone who is sick or housebound who would like communion brought to them, please hand in their names to the sacristy. Devotions to Our Lady of Fatima will take place before the 7pm mass on Saturday.
TABLE QUIZ: The School Parents Association held their annual Table Quiz in the Cu Chulainn last Friday. Twenty three tables competed, with first place sponsored by the Cu Chulainn won by Laurence Considine Junior, Theresa Considine, Ann Conway and Stephen Conway. Second place sponsored by OG Insulation was claimed by Paul O’Connor, Rory Walsh, Mary O’Connor and Helen O’Connor. Third place was claimed by Alan Murray, Aidan Scanlon, Pa Mann and Owen McNamara. Josh Considine’s table won the prize for the team with school age children with the highest score. Thank you to Ciaran Crowe our quiz master and Ann Ronan our adjudicator. SCHOOLS QUIZ: MPCC Credit Union has invited local primary schools to participate in the first stage of the nationwide 2012 Credit Union Schools Quiz competition, now in its twenty first year, in Mungret -St. Paul’s GAA Club on Saturday, February 4 at 2.30pm. Thirty teams involving120 children will represent St. Paul’s, St. Nessan’s, Crecora, Patrickswell, Ballybrown, Educate Together School in Mungret and Gael Scoil Raithin. The national final will be in Dublin at the beginning of April, where last year, Crecora National School performed brilliantly. They were great ambassadors for the credit union, their school and their families. Hopefully another local team can go one step further this year and claim the national title. LOUGH GUR: Poetry book launch in the Honeyfitz theatre, Friday February 3 at 8pm. When Whitehouse poets will read their own poems from their own poetry book. All proceeds will go towards the Cliona Ring Foundation. Free entry and refreshments on the night, poetry books on sale at €10, and a celebrity guest appearance. Lough Gur Amateur Drama performing 'Many Happy Returns' by Bernard Farrell, on Sunday February 5th 2012 at 8pm in the Honeyfitz theatre.

VALENTINES PARTY: The 6th annual Valentines Party Night will be held at the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare on the February 11. There will be a great night of entertainment with local traditional musicians in the lobby at 7pm, followed by a four course dinner. Then popular Galway band, Taylors Twist will entertain all ages with a selection of lively traditional, ceili and modern music. They will be followed by Munsters biggest DJ, DJB. All proceeds will go to The Milford Hospice and tickets are only 45Euro. There will be a raffle, special guests and lots of other surprises on the night. CITIZENS AGAINST CHARGES: Following the monster meeting, which took place in Newcastlewest in January, a follow-up meeting has now been arranged for Monday February 6 at the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine at 8pm. Items up for discussion will include septic tank charges, household tax and water charges, and many other topics concerning rural life. CARING FOR CARERS: The West Limerick Caring for Carers group in conjunction with the Revenue Commissioners will hold a free information morning on Monday February 6 at 10am in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West. Information will be provided regarding pensions and taxation, the household levy, water charges and septic tank charges. Public representatives have also been invited to attend. WORLD CANCER DAY: This Saturday February 4 is World Cancer Day, and is marked to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.World Cancer Day targets the public through global communications marking, and encourages policy makers to make cancer a political priority. The campaign emphasizes that 40% of cancers can be prevented through these healthy behaviors; providing a smoke-free environment for children, be physically active, eat a balanced, healthy diet, and avoid obesity, learn about vaccines for virus-related liver and cervical cancers, and avoid over-exposure to the sun.
