Patrickswell news for w/e February 10th.

Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place at 8 pm on Monday and all are welcome. Items for inclusion in the weekly Parish Newsletter should be handed into the sacristy by 9-30am on Friday or contact Fr. Muiris O’Connor on 353711 or 0866075628. OUR LADY OF LOURDES: This Saturday February 11 is The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. It has also been observed as the World Day of Prayer for the Sick since 1992 and was inaugurated by Pope John Paul II. It is a good opportunity to give special attention to the needs and witness of the sick in our communities. This year’s
 theme is taken from St. Luke’s Gospel episode of the healing of the ten lepers, "Stand up and go, your faith has saved you."

ANNOINTING: The sacrament of annointing for the sick and elderly will be celebrated in St.Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, this Friday February 10 at 7-30pm. Sacred music for the occasion will be led by Musica Sacra Chorale. This celebration, which will be conducted in candlelight, will consist of prayers and readings, and will conclude with a Eucharistic Blessing for the sick and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All are welcome.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS: As is widely known by now, the 50th International Eucharistic Congress takes place in Ireland this year, from June10-17. This is a major event in the life of the church in Ireland and last took place here in 1932. The main Congress Theme is, “The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another.” It is hoped to organise a bus from this Pastoral Area to the event if there is sufficient interest. If you are interested in travelling to the Congress for one of the daily sessions, please hand in your name to the sacristy in either Patrickswell or Ballybrown as soon as possible.

TIDY TOWNS: There was almost a full attendance at our first meeting of the year last Tuesday, which was mostly taken up with a lively discussion on plans for this year’s planting schemes. The AGM will not now take place on February 28 as first advised. Members will be contacted regarding a re-arrangement.

MID-WESTERN CANCER FOUNDATION: Following on from World Cancer Day last Saturday, the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation is looking for people to organise fundraising events, to enable it to continue with providing holistic care for patients and to support research in the Mid-West. JOEY HANNON MEMORIAL: The committee have been working behind the scenes organising a great day's events in memory of Joey, which takes place again this year on St.Patrick’s Day in Croom. The walk will start at 1:15 pm while the runners get off at 2 pm. We are encouraging people to dress up and there will be prizes for the best or original fancy dress. After the walk and race, prize giving will take place between 3:30 and 4 pm. Teas and sandwiches will be provided for all. The usual spot prizes and wheel of fortune will also feature. On St. Patrick's night there will be an Irish Night also in the Scout's Den and all are welcome to attend, where we will have traditional entertainment, €5 admission. We are fortunate this year to have the help of the local Macra group who are organising and helping out with the day's events. On Saturday March 31 we will have the annual Joey Hannon Memorial draw. 1st Prize this year is €1000, with 2nd prize€750 and 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th prizes of €100. Tickets are only €3 each with a book of 5 for €10. All the proceeds of the Race/Walk event, Irish night and the Draw are in aid of the following charities, The New National Children's Hospital, Chernobyl Children's Trust, and Croom Church Heating fund. RESOURCE CENTRE: Through the Community Council, a diverse range of activities, services and information is readily available at the Resource Centre including all HSE and Social Welfare forms. The FÁS Jobs Board is updated daily, and a photocopying and typing service is also offered. The Citizens Information Service can also be contacted, call in and see the notice board for dates. A free confidential counselling service can also be requested. The weekly 45Drive takes place every Thursday night at 9pm sharp, everybody welcome. CASTLECONNELL 10K: A 10km Road Race and Walk will take place in Castleconnell on Sunday April1 commencing at 1pm. Step into Spring by taking part
in this exciting event around the picturesque countryside of Castleconnell and Clonlara. Register on line at www.castleclon10k.com. Chip timing, early-bird entries €15, standard entry €20. Limited entries on the day subject to availability, at the Community Hall, from10am-12:00noon.
Prizes for Overall Male and Female:1st place: €75, 2nd place €50, & 3rd place €25 AAI permit pending. Course distance AAI approved. All proceeds to Castleconnell Boat Club.

IRISH YOUTH CHAMBER CHOIR: A stunning programme of sacred and secular music entitled “Messengers” will be performed by the Irish Youth Chamber Choir, described as Ireland’s finest young voices, at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday February 1 at 8pm.
