Patrickswell news for w/e October 21st.

CHURCH NOTICES: Listed readers for this weekend October 22-23, The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, are as follows, Saturday at 7pm James McCarthy, Sunday at 10am Ann Higgins, Sunday at 12noon Frances Lynch. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30 am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place at 8 pm on Monday and all are welcome.

MISSIONS SUNDAY: This Sunday is Missions Sunday, when our help is needed both by prayer and financially to support spiritually and practically those communities less fortunate than ourselves, and to express our unity with Christian communities everywhere, “Together in faith”.

GOLF SOCIETY: The Golfer of the Year title race is very close, with just nine points separating the top four. The title will be decided at the Captain’s Prize competition, which will be held in Waterford Castle Golf Club this Saturday October 22 .The top four players involved are; Padraig Mann on 182, Frankie Nolan180, Ger Considine 178, and Liam Quinlan 173. In order to win the Golfer of the Year, members must play in the Captain’s Prize. There will be a free bus running in conjunction with the Captain’s Prize on Saturday, and will be leaving the Cu Chulainn at 7am sharp. Seats are limited so please contact Kieran Darcy if you want to travel on the bus. Early booking is advisable. In Saturday’s competition, there will be the usual array of prizes and also some novelty prizes. One of the novelty prizes will be for the “ Best Turned out Golfer”, so all you “fashionistas” get your sartorial elegance sorted  to be in with a chance to win this valuable prize.

TIDY TOWNS: We are looking forward to our table quiz, which takes place this Friday, commencing at 9pm in the Cu Chulainn. This is always an enjoyable and entertaining occasion, and your continued support would be graciously appreciated. Christmas cards with the photograph of the shrine will also be available to purchase on the night. Members had hoped to have the results of the Limerick in Bloom competition in time for quiz night, but they will not be known until next week, when they are announced at the award ceremony in the council chamber at County Hall on Wednesday October 26 at 7pm. We will inform you of the outcome in the weekly newsletter the following weekend.

BLOOD DONORS: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires three thousand donations of blood every week, and a donor clinic is being held at the Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road, this coming Monday, October 24 from 6 to 9pm.You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. ART COMPETITION: MPCC Credit Union is delighted to announce the 2011 Credit Union art competition. All budding local artists are invited to submit entries for this year's Credit Union National Art Competition illustrating the theme “Ireland through my eyes”. Now in its 28th yea, the competition attracts up to 50,000 entries through 300 credit unions nationwide and caters for all ages with categories ranging from under 7 to over 18 years of age. MPCC Credit Union is inviting anybody in the locality with an interest in art to enter. Entry forms are available in the following local schools, Patrickswell N.S, St. Paul’s N.S, Ballybrown N.S, Crecora N.S, Educate Together Mungret, St. Nessan’s N.S and Crescent College Comprehensive. LOUGH GUR: Don't miss this weekend’s mix of traditional music, storytelling and folklore in Lough Gur. Events include Rambling House unique blend of traditional music, Miriam Lambert puppeteer, Paul Malone comedian and musician, Little John Nee and guests, Sean Tyrell, John Carew, poet, County Limerick Youth Theatre open Mic and Lough Gur amateur dramatic society performing ‘Wedding night blues’….a hilarious one act by Jimmy Keary. COMPUTER CLASSES: Volunteer-led beginners computer classes are being offered in Patrickswell Resource House. Classes will run for 6 weeks, 1 hour per week and are free to those in receipt of social welfare payments including pension.  Contact Irene, in West Limerick Resources at 069 66298 to book a place.

PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: The Parent and Toddler group meets on Thursday morning from 9:30 – 11:00am in the Resource House. Open to parents and pre-school children, the mornings include tea, coffee and a chat for parents, and play and nursery rhymes for the children. RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME: The Rural Development Programme, also known as LEADER, is designed to target resources to support improvements to the quality of life in rural areas and the diversification and development of the rural economy.
