You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. There will be a donor clinic in Raheen the following week. For more information contact the Donor Information Line on 1850 731137, or their website.
TIDY TOWNS: We were overwhelmed by the response to our table quiz last Friday, which will surely be remembered as a quiz night with a difference, for several reasons. There were twentyone tables in attendance, keenly answering a range of questions compiled by Ciaran Crowe, with the illustrious P.J.O’Grady once again as the indefatigable question master, keeping the show on the road, and injecting proceedings with his own brand of humour and comments. Anne Ronan kept a cool head collating all the scores. P.J. was given a well deserved standing ovation on his recent retirement, after thirty eight years in the Ambulance Service. Proceedings were also interrupted by Liam Foley’s family who were waiting in the wings to surprise him with happy sixtieth birthday greetings, complete with a celebratory cake and candles. There was no truth in the rumour that the fire brigade were on standby outside. Christy Murphy very generously sponsored cash prizes for the winning team, and due to the generosity of the business community in Patrickswell, and other friends and supporters, we were able to present prizes for the quiz to four placings, a rare occurrence. There was also a fantastic range of generously donated spot prizes on offer. When order was finally restored, after the interruptions, Liam’s birthday celebrations continued into the early hours, with music, singing and dancing aplenty. It was indeed a quiz night with a difference. We would like to thank just everybody and anybody who contributed in any and every way, to make it such a successful and enjoyable occasion.

CONOR MURRAY: There were lively and good natured scenes at the Dark Horse last Thursday night, where a reception hosted by Patrickswell Community Council, was held to honour local sportsman Conor Murray, on his return from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Presentations were made to Conor on behalf of the community by Michael McSweeney, chairperson of the Community Council, who congratulated Conor on his achievement, and for the honour he has brought to his parish representing his country in such a prestigious competition, at such an early stage in his rugby career. Conor then agreed to have photographs taken with all in attendance, as a memento of the occasion.
