TIDY TOWNS: The winners of this year’s Limerick in Bloom Competition were announced at the award ceremony in the council chamber of County Hall last Wednesday evening. We are delighted to announce that Patrickswell was awarded second place out nine entries in the category for populations over seven hundred. Many thanks obviously too numerous to mention, to all who helped in any way, during the year, in bringing that accolade to the community. Our final project for the year was brought to fruition last week, with the completion of a hard standing to facilitate the vehicles using the gate at the entrance to the lis ard. Many thanks to Michael McSweeney and Tony Quinn for their assistance in bringing about another improvement to a satisfactory conclusion.

GAA: On Thursday November 24, the club will host a play called "The Pitch." Written by Academy award winning screenwriter Shane Connaughton. Tickets for this event will cost €10 and are available from any club committee member.

GOLF SOCIETY: The curtain came down on our Society golfing season last Saturday with Tony O’Neill’s Captain’s prize being held in Waterford Castle Golf Club. Tony has had a very successful year as captain with big attendances at every outing during the year. Even though the weather turned very nasty on the day it didn’t dampen the spirits of the very good attendance once again that turned out for the competition. A special word of thanks to the Nolan brothers, Benny and Frankie, for their very generous sponsorship on the day and also thanks to Mick Naughton for his sponsorship of the bus for the day. Congratulations to Brian Murray on his triumph on the day, as this was his second year in a row winning the Captain’s Prize.
The results were as follows,1st Brian Murray 37points (b9), 2nd Kieran Darcy 37points, 3rd Gerry Molyneaux 33points, Gross Timmie Sheehan, 5th Jimmy Mc.Carthy 32points, 6th Padraig Mann 32points,7th Dessie Foley 32points, 8th Liam Quinlan 31points, 9th Cian Harrington 31points,10th Gerry Murray 32points.
The Golfer of the Year prize was won by Padraig Mann. This prize is given to the most consistent golfer over all the years’outings. Well do Pa. Once again we would like to thank all our sponsors over the year. The society realises that in the present financial climate all businesses are finding it tough going, and you are fully deserving of all our support in your commercial ventures. Well done to all our members who turned out in such great numbers in all the outings throughout the year. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2012.

BOXERCISE: Boxercise classes take place every Wednesday evening from 7-8pm in Mungret GAA hall. All are welcome. Contact John On 087-9115411 for more information.

UNISLIM: A Unislim class takes place in the GAA hall, on Wednesdays from 6-15 to 7-15pm. Contact Lynda O’Mahoney on 087-9934489.

ROAD SAFETY: Now that the evenings get darker earlier, after the clocks going back an hour, it is important for walkers and cyclists to make themselves visible to other road users at all times. Walkers are urged to wear high visibility coats or jackets and carry a torch. Cyclists should make sure their front and rear lights are in working order, and also wear high visibility clothing. Equally, drivers should be on their guard for cyclists and walkers.

TUS: A community work placement scheme providing short-term working opportunities for unemployed people is now available, and there is a possibility that the scheme could be available in Patrickswell, if sufficient interest from community groups is forthcoming. It maybe possible for two or three groups to come together to provide enough work for the scheme to go ahead. More information is available from Mike McSweeney, chairperson of the community council.
