SYMPATHY
The community extends its heartfelt sympathy to Mossie Carmody and extended family, on the recent sad loss of his eldest sister Myra, of Mount Earl, who passed away on the morning of St. Stephen’s Day. The Holy Trinity Abbey, Adare, was full to capacity for the funeral mass on Thursday morning which was a source of great comfort to the family, and was also a tribute to the high regard and affection that Myra was held in. Her loving, caring and compassionate nature touched the lives of many, and she will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered for those special qualities, which endeared her to family and friends alike. May her soul rest in peace.

TIDY TOWNS
The news of our second place in the Limerick in Bloom Awards was well received over the holiday period. The announcement was made just in time for us to include the news in the notes and Parish Newsletter. Here are the details; Patrickswell scored a mark of eighty two, and the following is a complete record of the judges remarks. The roundabout entrance was awash with colour and very impressive. The grotto is very well preserved but the walls could be improved. The new stone troughs around the village are very striking. The Dark Horse pub was awash with coloured baskets. Many gardens were adorned with colour. Lisheen Estate has vastly improved. These remarks are very encouraging and well done to everyone whose efforts were worthy of particular mention. We will be including improvements to the wall at the shrine as one of our priorities for the coming year. If anyone can offer assistance for that project in terms of cleaning, painting or sponsoring the paint we would be glad to hear from you. We were delighted to see the improvements made to the area around the bus stop opposite the Dragon I restaurant just before Christmas. The ground has been levelled and kerbed, a footpath and proper parking bay installed. We had already trimmed back the hedge there last year, and the whole area will be easier to maintain. Another priority is for something to be done to the grass verges adjacent to the refurbished wall, just up from the entrance to Shannon Development. Last year’s efforts of adding topsoil, levelling and reseeding have been totally wiped out with lorries parking and churning up the ground. We had contacted the community council for advice regarding parking there but they appeared unwilling or unable to help us. However we intend to pursue the matter further and will persevere in our resolve for a more satisfactory and permanent solution.
