GOLDEN WEDDING

Sincere good wishes and many congratulations are extended to Vincent and Norah Doherty, Sycamore Heights, who recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They returned to Northampton specifically for the occasion where an anniversary mass was held at Primrose Hill Cathedral, attended amongst others by Jimmy, Vince’s brother who was Best Man fifty years ago, and Shiela Costello who was a bridesmaid and who they haven’t seen for forty nine years. The couple’s five daughters were instrumental in organising the service, and the party which followed was held in the same venue as the wedding reception way back in 1960. There were up to a hundred and fifty guests at the party, many family members and friends having travelled over from Ireland including several from Patrickswell
It really was a wonderful occasion for Vince and Norah, made all the more special with seventeen of their eighteen grandchildren completing the family picture. The couple were photographed outside the cathedral after the mass, and a report appeared in the Northampton Chronicle. Norah commented that fifty years is quite an achievement, and the many memories which the mass and the party brought back of their wedding day, was just wonderful.  “We have had a lovely marriage, we always forgive and forget, and we aren’t afraid to say sorry when we are wrong,” was how Norah summed up the celebration and their life together. God Bless you both Vince and Norah.

WORLD DAYS

Friday November 20 is recognized as Universal Children’s Day and has been  since October 1955, to promote the welfare of the world’s children, and as a day to celebrate childhood. The following day Saturday 21 is  the 37th annual World Hello Day.  Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people to demonstrate the importance of personal communication for preserving peace. It was begun in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in 1973.  Since then, World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries who use the occasion as an opportunity to express their concern for world peace, and to encourage leaders  to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts. As a global event World Hello Day joins local participation in a global expression of peace. The web site  is http://www.worldhelloday.org.
