PARISH MISSION
There was a carnival atmosphere to the start of the Parish Mission on Sunday afternoon when the church was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour for the blessing of babies and young children. There were treats for the children, and tea and biscuits were served afterwards from a marquee, which added to the feeling of festival and celebration. The first evening session on Sunday was well attended, with the portrayal of “The Road To Emmaus” taking centre stage. Mission week draws to its close on Saturday with Mass and Annointing of the Sick at 11am in Patrickswell and Ballybrown, and evening mass on Saturday in Patrickswell at 7pm, and Ballybrown at 8pm.
BENEFIT NIGHT
You are cordially invited to take part in a Benefit Night in Punch’s Bar on Saturday October 16. Music will be by Free Beer. Tickets cost five euro each and are available from Patrickswell Post Office, Liam Shinnors or Kathryn Tierney.
NEW BUSINESS
A trendy new hair salon opened on Main Street on Tuesday. Klassy Cuts offers the full range of professional ladies and gents hairdressing with special offers to celebrate the opening. Students and Senior Citizens can also avail of special rates. A nail bar will be added to the range of services in the not too distant future. CAMOGIE
Congratulations to Shirley Balfrey who was bestowed with the accolade of Player of the Year by Patrickswell Camogie Club at their presentation evening last Friday, to rapturous applause. Obviously a very popular decision.
SENIOR’S PARTY
The Senior Citizen’s Party takes place next Friday October 15 in the Cu Chulainn. Mass will be celebrated at 7pm, with dinner at 8pm, followed by dancing and entertainment. All are welcome. The organisers would be grateful for the donation of spot prizes for the occasion, which can be handed in to the Cu Chulainn at any time.
BLOOD DONORS
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires additional donations of the O Negative Blood Group this week, and donor clinics are being held at the following locations; Tuesday October 12 at the Southcourt Hotel, Raheen, from 5 to 9pm, and Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel, Castletroy from 6 to 9pm.There will be donor clinics in Abbeyfeale next week. You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. WORLD DAYS
This Saturday October 9 is recognised by the UN as World Post Day. Sunday October 10 is World Mental Health Day designated to promote world wide mental health education, awareness and advocacy. It was first celebrated in 1992, and in some countries including America and Canada, this day is part of the larger Mental Illness Awareness Week.
