Patrickswell news for w/e September 3rd

CHURCH NOTICES




Listed readers for this weekend, September 4-5, The Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time are as follows; Saturday at 7pm Ellen Foley, Sunday at 10am Niall Sheehy, Sunday at 12noon Julie Darcy. Eucharistic Ministers, Saturday at 7pm, E.O’Byrne,R. Madigan, J.Tierney. Sunday at 10am, N.Murray, P.J.O’Grady, Sunday at 12noon, B.Enright, N.Quinn, P.Kirby. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at 9-30 am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place on Monday at 8pm and all are welcome. This Friday September 3, is First Friday, and there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 9-30 am mass until 11am. Communion will be distributed to the sick. Devotions to Our Lady of Fatima will take place before the 7pm mass on Saturday.







PAKISTAN FLOOD APPEAL



There was a generous response to the recent Pakistan Flood Appeal, and a sum in excess of two thousand euro was collected to assist Trócaire in the relief operation. Grateful thanks for your generosity.







BLOOD DONORS



The Irish Blood Transfusion Service requires three thousand donations every week, and a donor clinic is being held at Scoile Ide, Corbally, this Monday September 6 from 6-9pm. You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. GOLF SOCIETY



A very successful outing was held in Gort on Saturday August 7 with the following results.1st Ian Kelleher 34points, 2nd Mark Leahy 32 points. Category A,1st Gerry Molyneaux 31points, 2nd Declan O’Grady 30 points. Caetgory B, 1st Seamus Enright 30 points (B9), 2nd Mick Barry 30points. Front 9 Ger Considine, Back 9 Cian Harrington.

There are just two outings left for 2010 and those dates are Dromoland next Saturday September11 and the Captain’s Prize on Saturday September 25 which will be played for in Waterford.







DAISY DAYS



“Aware” is a national charity which helps sufferers to defeat and overcome depression. They are looking to recruit volunteers to assist in their annual fund raising campaign which is called Daisy Days, and runs from Thursday September 16 to Saturday September 18. Volunteers are asked to sell packs of daisy bulbs and daisy pins in local supermarkets and shopping centres around the country. Each item costs €3, with all the proceeds going to Aware. If you can spare an hour or two on one of the days, Aware would be delighted to hear from you. You can help even more by organising a rota of volunteers in your own local area for one, two or three days, your local knowledge is vital so please help with your area rota if you are able. Email fundraising@aware.ie for more information, together with your name, specific local area and a contact telephone number. You can really make a difference, your contribution to Daisy Days is essential, they simply can't do it without volunteers.







MISS LIMERICK WORLD



Patrickswell’s very own Tanika Delee was awarded the second runner up sash at the recent Miss Limerick World Pageant, from a total entry of twenty contestants. Tanika can be very proud for having the courage and confidence to take part in such a prestigious and stylish event, the winner of which, Valerie Somers, will now represent Limerick in the Miss Ireland competition. Tanika’s family, friends and supporters are very proud of her achievement in the competition, and no doubt we will be seeing more of her in similar competitions in the future.







OPEN DAY



Patrickswell Community Resource Centre is holding an Open Day on Friday September 10 from 12 - 2pm. Information and enrolment on upcoming courses and services will be available, come and talk to course organisers. Public representatives and media will be attending. PARENT AND TODDLER



The Parent and Toddler Group re-starts on Thursday September 9 from 9.30 - 11.00am, and every Thursday morning thereafter. Open to pre-school children and their parents, new members are always welcome.







45 DRIVE



The weekly Progressive 45 Drive will re-commence on Thursday September16 at 9pm sharp, in the Resource Centre and every Thursday thereafter. All are welcome.







COMMUNITY CELEBRATION DAY



Irish Rural Link, Nasc Tuaithe na hÉireann, is co-ordinating a nationwide Community Celebration Day on Friday September 10 to showcase the work of Community Services Projects (CSP's). These are local projects delivering a wide variety of vital services and employment opportunities nationwide. COFFEE MORNING



The Irish Hospice Foundation will host Ireland's Biggest Coffee Morning 2010 on Thursday September 16. This annual event has grown to become firmly established as the major national fundraiser in aid of hospice care, and people all over the country will host coffee mornings in their homes and workplaces to raise money for hospice. The Irish Hospice Foundation coordinates the event on behalf of voluntary hospice groups nationwide. The work includes dispatching coffee (donated by Bewley's), posters and collection boxes to hospice fundraising groups all over Ireland, and all money raised locally, stays local. All funds raised throughout Limerick on this day go directly to Milford Hospice. SHOW WINNERS



Following on from their recent successes at the Dublin Horse Show, local equestrian stars Bryan Fitzgerald and Vicky Ryan maintained their winning ways at Cappamore and the Limerick Show. Having won the Junior Side Saddle competition in Dublin, Vicky also won the same class at Limerick. At Cappamore and Limerick, Vicky was placed second in the Open 153cm Show Hunter Pony competition, while Bryan achieved second place in the 128cm Show Jumping event at Limerick. Patrickswell was also well represented in various other craft competitions at Limerick. Astrid Hann gained first for knitting, as did Marian Reale for cotton crochet, and Mark Downing of Faha achieved a third for his landscape photography. In the cookery section, Maura Tully’s tea scones came first, as did Anna Reale’s decorated queen cakes. Michael O’Mara’s tomatoes gained him a third, while Norman Wheeler’s were highly commended, and he was also placed second for his cherry tomatoes. Michael continued with a third for his vegetable marrow, and Maura Tully came second with her herbs. In the flower section, Patsy Quin was placed third in Rhythm and Style, Marie Wheeler was third in Nature’s Jewells and Warm Welcome, and Liz Wheeler was placed second for her patio container. In the children’s section, Una Real came third in the Rock, bog and novel garden class. At Cappamore, Marion Moynihan of Garranroe was second for her entry in the 3D Decoupage section, and Gearoid Moynihan was second with his entry for Any Constructed item from Recyclable Material. In the photography section at Cappamore, Mark Downing was awarded no less than four placings; a first and highly commended in the class, Nature any subject,  second for a recent black and white photograph, and third for an Irish colour scenic view. Congratulations to all participants, it’s your continued entry and interest in these competitions that will help these local shows to thrive and flourish in the future.
