HERITAGE

National Heritage Week commences this Saturday August 21 until August 29, and if boredom is setting in with the school holidays, the week offers a host of interesting and unusual attractions and events both locally and nationally. The week gets off to a flying start on Saturday which the Heritage Council has designated Wild Child Day to celebrate 2010 as International Year of Biodiversity and is all about getting outdoors to connect with nature no matter what the weather or where you are. There is lots to do for all ages and all the family during National Heritage Week, and best of all most of it is free! The idea is to encourage families to get outdoors and interact and connect with the natural world to see the beauty and benefits it has to offer, and

almost all events during National Heritage Week are child friendly. The Hunt Museum is hosting a range of activities including arts and crafts, tours and lectures, Tel 490080, or education@huntmuseum.com for more details. Other local events will be taking place at the Georgian House Pery Square, Lough Gur, Desmond Hall Newcastlewest, Kilteely and Knockainey to name just a few. Lovers of butterflies, bats, birds of prey and dolphins are also catered for, just log on to Heritage week 2010 for a full range of information, local or national.
