TIDY TOWNS
We have been notified that judging for this year’s Limerick in Bloom Competition will take place between Tuesday July20 and Friday July 23, so we still have a few weeks left to ensure the village is presented well, and looking its best. The windy conditions last week didn’t do us any favours however and the contents of some of the hanging baskets were tossed and damaged. Our watering schedule is in full swing, and the flowers at the roundabout are maturing well. The rear of the Post Office apartments approaching Main Street from Marian Park is a riot of colour where a range of hanging baskets, tubs and window boxes have been planted. Well done to all concerned there. All in the group would like to wish Angela Kirby a happy and healthy retirement as she has parked up the Mungret school bus for the last time, after thirty six years in the driving seat. Angela turned off the ignition for the last time last week, when school finished up for the summer holidays. Marian Park will not look quite the same again without Angela’s bus parked there anymore.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL
The Community Council is undertaking a major fundraising day at Limerick Racecourse on Sunday week July18.The event will consist of a National Tractor Pulling Competition, vintage car and tractor rally, sheepdog trials, trade stands, market stalls, and family attractions. All proceeds from the event will be going towards a new community development in Patrickswell. Admission to the event is €10, with children under 10 free.
Attractions for the children will include bouncing castle, slides, roundabouts, a laser game (where the adults will want to become children again), and face painting.
The market stalls will provide home produce, arts and crafts, gardening items, and that great feeling we all get from strolling and browsing around a market on a summers day.
With such a spectacular venue, and so many items of interest, a very enjoyable day is expected to be had by all.
GOLF SOCIETY RESULTS
Members enjoyed some wonderful sunshine for our June outing which was played in Killorglan. The recent trend of good attendances was kept up with a fine turnout of 38 golfers taking part in the competition. Last weekend in the beautiful surroundings of Adare Manor Golf Club we held our July outing. But as usual someone comes out of the pack to tame the course and that man this time out was Bryan Murray. The results were as follows, 1st Bryan Murray 43points, 2nd Mick Barry 38points. Category A,1st Tom Dundon 35points, 2nd Mark Leahy 34points. Category B,1st D.O’Grady 38points, 2nd Dessie Foley 34points.
