TIDY TOWNS

With adjudication for the Limerick in Bloom Competition scheduled for next week, its down to the last few days to finish off any remaining jobs to ensure the village is presented well for the arrival of the judging panel. The hanging baskets seem to have recovered from the battering of recent stormy conditions which was one of our main concerns, and all the beds, pots and containers appear to have weathered well. Needless to say there was some respite for the watering crew this week. The last remaining hedges have been trimmed or clipped, and a few small areas need to be strimmed. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us between now and judging, and all grass areas will be able to avail of a final trim. There are still some pockets of weeds requiring attention. We just need to be vigilant regarding litter, and hope that our efforts will be rewarded accordingly.

TRACTOR PULLING

The Community Council is hoping for fine weather this Sunday July 18 for its major fundraising day at Limerick Racecourse. The event will consist of a National Tractor Pulling Competition, vintage car and tractor rally, sheepdog trials, trade stands, market stalls, and family attractions. All proceeds from the event will be going towards a new community development in Patrickswell. Admission to the event is €10, with children under 10 free. With the emphasis on making it a family fun day, there will be plenty of

attractions on offer for the children which will include bouncing castle, slides, roundabouts, a laser game (where the adults will want to become children again), and face painting. There will also be market stalls to browse around which will provide the opportunity to purchase home produce, arts and crafts, gardening items, and that great feeling we all get from strolling and browsing around a market on a summers day. With such a spectacular venue, and so many items of interest, it is hoped a very enjoyable day will be had by all.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Parents are being urged to make an early application for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance. It can take several weeks for applications to be processed, especially if large numbers apply late. The earlier the application, the earlier the money will become available. Depending on the ages involved, payments of €200 or €305 are available from a total fund of €82million. To simplify matters, applications can be made by text this year. Text “FORM BTSCFA” to 51909, followed by your name and address.

CUSTOM CAR SHOW

The seventh Custom and Performance Car Show takes place at Limerick Racecourse on Sunday July 25 from 10am until 6pm.
