TRACTOR PULL
Despite the weather which it was hoped would have been kinder on the day, there was a good attendance at the racecourse on Sunday to see the National Tractor Pulling Championships, which was part of the fund raising day organised by the Community Council. Vintage tractors, motor cars from a byegone era, and a miscellany of other artefacts were on display for all those interested. There was also a varied and unusual array of vehicles in the competition itself, drawing humorous and seasoned comments from many of the spectators. The event was well supported in terms of local groups offering their assistance for stewarding, and manning the stalls. Its an ill wind that doesn’t blow anyone some good, and the intermittent showers which did their best to dampen spirits, provided brisk trade to the stallholders, as spectators dashed for cover, taking advantage to avail of a pint, a sandwich and cups of tea at the same time.
GOLF SOCIETY
At the prize giving following our July outing in Adare Manor Golf Club, a special presentation was made to Kieran Carroll in celebration of his being appointed Captain of Adare Manor Golf Club for 2010. We wish him the best of luck in his own Captain’s Prize in Adare Manor in late July. Our next outing will be in Gort on Saturday August 7.
