BOOK LAUNCH

A new book entitled Unlimited Heartache, is being launched in the Cu Chulainn this Saturday, October 10. The author is Henry Martin, a nephew of Christy Murphy, and the book is a compilation of the story of Limerick Hurling over the last seventy years. The four hundred page book contains an interesting miscellany of interviews, articles and photographs, and has already been well received. None other than J.P. McManus will be in attendance to officially launch the publication at 9-30pm, and a cordial invitation is extended to all to attend this prestigious occasion.

TIDY TOWNS

Our September meeting took place on the last Tuesday of the month and was well attended, some members finding the time for a quick clean up beforehand, before the evening light faded and the frosty air made its presence felt. Even though our activities are not yet fully over for this year, all in attendance were keen to discuss ideas for next year, and there was no shortage of suggestions for celebrating our tenth year of activities with something special. We still have something special in our midst however, with the flowers on the wall at the roundabout as impressive as ever, and almost forming a curtain to the floor, even so late into the year. They will continue to receive the tender loving care they deserve for as long as possible, even though it is most unusual to be watering at this time of the year, and hopefully their continued presence and vibrance will help to shorten the winter. The Shrine Committee which was active for so many years is no longer in existence, and on winding up, its members have graciously and very generously decided to pass on their remaining funds to us, to assist us in the upkeep, and we are very grateful to them for that. However, John and Eileen O’Shea have agreed to continue cutting the grass there, and we will continue to work together to maintain it in a fit and proper manner. Our annual Quiz Night has been fixed for Friday October 23, which is the Friday prior to the Bank Holiday Weekend, and Christy Murphy at the Cu Chulainn has again very generously agreed to host it and sponsor the First Table Prize. Given the current financial situation we have decided to keep the entry fee at €20 for a table of four. With P.J. O’Grady in charge of proceedings, we guarantee an interesting and entertaining evening, and we look forward to your attendance and support.
