CHURCH NOTICES

Listed readers for masses this coming weekend, October 17-18, The Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time are as follows; Saturday at 7pm Rosemary Kelleher, Sunday at 10am Niall Sheehy, Sunday at 12noon Simon Hayes. Eucharistic Ministers, Saturday at 7pm M.Collins, M.Bennis, B.Carroll. Sunday at 10am, M.O’Mara, M.Punch, Sunday at 12noon S.Enright, N.O’Grady, R.Bennis. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at 9-30 am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place on Monday evening from 8 to 9pm and all are welcome. This Sunday is also “Missions Sunday”, and an envelope is provided in place of the Diocesan needs Collection, for contributions to support our missionaries.



MPCC CREDIT UNION

Congratulations to Adam Burke of Crecora, who was the lucky winner of the 25th Anniversary Members Draw for September. Adam is the recipient of Brown Thomas vouchers, kindly sponsored by Grant Thornton Chartered Accountants. The draw continues again this month and all Members who carry out a transaction on their account are automatically entered. This month’s draw prize of € 200 has been very generously sponsored by Copytype, the Documentation Specialists who are located in Mungret.

BLOOD DONORS

PRESENTATION OF CHEQUE

The money raised by Patrickswell Community at the recent Family Fun Day will be presented to Coisceim Eile on Tuesday 20th October @8pm in the Resource House. Light Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.



FARMERS MARKET

A weekly Farmers Market is now being held at the Crescent Shopping Centre every Wednesday from 9-30am until 2-30pm, outside the City Mall entrance.



FILM AWARD

The School has again been nominated for an award at the National FÍS Film Festival, this time for their production entitled, “What is Poverty?” Pupils and teachers from all over Ireland will be at the award ceremony this Tuesday, October 20, at the Helix in Dublin City University.



REMEMBRANCE DAY

If anyone has lost a family member, friend or loved one to cancer, you are invited to attend a special day of remembrance which will be taking place in Bedford Row this Saturday, October 17. All in attendance will be given a pink balloon to release at 3-45pm in their loved one’s memory.



TIDY TOWNS

As of last Sunday, posters regarding the Lisbon Treaty were still in place at various locations throughout the village. Their continued presence contravenes Litter and Pollution legislation, and should have been removed by last Friday. The County Council Environment Section has been informed in the hope that the posters will be removed as soon as possible.



RESOURCE HOUSE

The Resource House is a hive of activity these days with a full range of activities running every day as follows; Art Classes Monday morning, Monday evening and Tuesday evening, Computers for beginners Tuesday morning, Coffee morning starting next Wednesday October 21 from 10am to 12noon, Childcare classes Wednesday evening, Parent and Toddler Group Thursday morning from 10-30am till 12noon, 45Drive Thursdays at 9pm, and the Senior Citizen’s Friday Club from 3 to 5pm. An Internet Café will also be opening soon. HSE and Social Welfare Forms are also available, and the FAS jobs board is updated daily. Other facilities include Confidential Citizen’s Advice, and a free confidential Counselling Service on request. HOLIDAY DEADLINES

Due to holiday arrangements, any items for inclusion in the Patrickswell notes for the two weeks ending October 31, and November 6, will need to be submitted by Thursday October 22. Apologies for any inconvenience, normal service will be resumed for the issue dated November13.



POVERTY

Since 1992 October 17 has been recognized by the United Nations as International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. One of the main aims of the day is to make the voice of the poor heard. The text from the first event in Paris in 1987 reads, "Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty".



PARENT & TODDLER GROUP

The group meets each Thursday from 10.30am-12noon in the Patrickswell Resource Centre This free group is open to parents with children under school going age. All are welcome. For more information contact Irene on 069 66298.



OLDER PEOPLE’S NETWORK

West Limerick Resources aims to establish a network for older peoples groups to help inform the company’s strategy in relation to future initiatives in the area. The first meeting will take place in Newcastle West on Thursday October 22nd from 2.30-4.40pm. Here West Limerick Resources will provide an overview of the variety of supports currently available in the community. DANCE CLASSES

Dance Classes have begun in the GAA Hall on Mondays from 10:30am-12noon. It is supported by West Limerick Resources and the County Limerick Local Sports Partnership. Job Seekers, people parenting alone, county council house residents and over 65s are especially welcome. Contact Irene on 069 66298 to book a place.

The Rural Development Programme, also known as LEADER, is designed to target resources to improve the quality of life in rural areas and the diversification and development of the rural economy.
