CHURCH GATE COLLECTION
The church gate collection this weekend is in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, and your generosity would be greatfully appreciated.
HARVEST FARE
The twenty fourth annual Milford Hospice Harvest Fare takes place this coming Sunday, August 30, at the Unigolf facility in Castletroy. Donation of items for the various stalls are still being accepted.
PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
A new Parent and Toddler Group will be launched in Patrickswell this autumn. Those wishing to learn more are invited to attend a coffee morning on Thursday September 10, at the Patrickswell Resources House, starting 10.30am. WOMEN IN DECISION MAKING
West Limerick Resources will run a ten week Introduction to Women’s Studies Programme in one or two rural West Limerick locations this autumn. This informal and adult centered programme will take place one evening per week and aims to create a greater awareness of the issues which contribute to the inequality of women, helping participants increase self confidence and self-awareness and progress, if desired, to further education or training. Free of charge, it is open to all women, particularly those living in rural areas, low income earners or women who work full time in the home. Places will be limited. An information evening will take place on Wednesday, September 2 at 7.30pm in the Desmond Complex (located behind the Fire Station), Newcastle West. WEST LIMERICK RADIO
This week saw the start of a new documentary ‘Winner Alright, Winner Alright’ on West Limerick 102fm, which is looking at the strong foothold of horse racing in the West Limerick area. Each week on Tuesdays at 1-30pm, we will meet with local people who are involved in the industry at various levels; we will meet and hear about the work of Tommy Kelly (Askeaton Point to Point), Sam Brennan (Farrier- Askeaton), Eric McNamara (Trainer -Rathkeale), Emmet McNamara & Andrew McNamara (Rathkeale & Croom –Jockeys), Pat Ahern (Abbeyfeale Syndicate Member) and life at the Patrickswell racetrack. Join us for the six week documentary and hear more about the contribution that West Limerick makes to the world of horseracing. This programme is funded by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (B.C.I). Produced & presented by Dearbhla Conlon Ahern.
BLOOD DONORS

CEMETERY MASS
A reminder that the annual mass for deceased members of the parish will take place in Kilkeedy cemetery, Ballybrown, this coming Monday August 31 commencing at 7pm.
KARATE CLUB
The Twin Dragon Karate Association of Ireland (T.D.K.A) will open two new classes in Limerick city starting on Saturday September 5. One will be held in Saint Philomena’s School, South Circular Road from 11am to 12noon, and the other in the scout hall in Saint Paul’s school Dooradoyle, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Both classes are open to adults and children. Karate can help develop your self confidence, physical well being, increases flexibility, agility, stamina, speed, co-ordination, street awareness and learn the art of self-defence. Karate is also a great way to meet new people and a way for adults and children to keep fit especially with so much obesity in our young children. Classes are also held in the following locations; Askeaton Community Hall Tuesdays 7 to 8pm, Pallaskenry Community Hall Tuesdays 8.30 to 9.30pm, Adare Community Hall Wednesdays 7 to 8pm, Patrickswell G.A.A Thursdays 7pm to 8pm, Manister Community Hall Mondays 6.30 to 7.30pm, and Croom scout hall Fridays 7 to 8pm
All classes start the first week in September and are open to adults and children.
Self-defence classes are available for schools and clubs, private classes are also available.

GOLF SOCIETY
Our Mitchelstown outing was held last Saturday in the beautiful surroundings of the Galtee Mountains with that rarest of commodities so far this year namely sunshine being the order of the day. We had a great turnout of 40 golfers vying for the prizes which were kindly sponsored by Kieran Carroll of Hi Tech Solutions. The results were as follows; 1st Alan Purcell 38 points, Category A,1st Pat Barry 35 points, 2nd Derek O’Curry 34 points. Category B, 1st Padraig Mann 38 points, 2nd Stephen Conway 32 points, Front 9 Eddie Kiely 21 points, Back 9 Kieran Carroll 18 points.
MOTORWAYS
As from midnight this Friday, August 28, several stretches of local roadway will be officially re-designated as motorways, including the 5 kilometre stretch between Limerick and Attyflin. The speed limit will automatically be increased to 120 kilometres per hour. The designation will also mean that cyclists, pedestrians, invalid carriages, and learner drivers among others, will no longer be able to drive on those roads.
