Patrickswell news for w/e June 5th

MEMORIES

There was a large and representative cross section of the community in attendance on the evening of Monday May 25 at a reception for the launch of “Memories”, an interesting, amusing and factual collection of stories and poems, anecdotes and reflections, by Patrickswell Senior Citizens. The event was generously hosted by Maurice Clerk proprietor of Blueberry Art Gallery, and also featured a wealth of memories in the form of a very extensive and well presented exhibition of photographs and press cuttings which surely must have jogged more than a memory or two. The book, which was compiled and edited by Evelyn Doran, was produced as the contribution to this year’s Bealtaine Festival, celebrating creativity in older age. Many members of the Active Retirement Group and the Friday Club were at the launch and some of the contributors read a selection of their stories and poems to the appreciative audience during the course of a very enjoyable evening.

TIDY TOWNS

The village was again a hive of activity last Tuesday with the second phase of our planting scheme being completed. This included the bed at the entrance to Marian Park, the main roundabout, the entrance to Shannon Development, and the various new containers. Strimming and grass cutting continued at the Limerick side of the roundabout and most adjacent areas, in our efforts to improve the entrance to the village from that approach. With the hanging baskets now in place, the watering scheme is again in operation, and we would like to ask if anyone is able to assist with the watering rota a few nights a week, or just a few times during the season, please contact any member of the group. Our application for this year’s Limerick in Bloom Competition has been entered, it is again being sponsored by Shannon Development, and will be judged during July and August. We will also be entering the County Environment Competition, remembering that Patrickswell was placed third in last year’s Tidiest Village Awards, can we improve on that this year? For those who have supported us year after year, we will also be promoting and sponsoring our very own Patrickswell- in- Bloom Awards, and look forward to your continuing support and participation.
