TIDY TOWNS

Our efforts to tidy up the area adjacent to the wall at the roundabout continued last week. Willy Murray completed the necessary excavations on Monday, and the gang of six, Mossie Carmody, Sam Milburn, Jimmy Mulqueen, Liam Foley, Terence O’Brien and Seamus Enright, moved in on Wednesday with rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows, and the area has now been leveled and seeded. The shrubbery there has also been trimmed and shaped, and the entire area has taken on a whole new appearance. The county council have at last removed the shrubbery at the Croom Road end, opposite the petrol pumps at Lucey’s. It had become increasingly more difficult for us to maintain that area, which the council had planted several years ago, and its removal has also improved traffic safety at that junction. We hope to level and seed that area this week. The flowers on the wall at the roundabout are beginning to fill out, and is the talking point for many already. The baskets are maturing also, and are responding to the tender loving care of the watering crews. Vince Doherty has also been busy mowing and strimming the approaches to Sycamore Heights. A few areas still require some attention, but we are pleased with the effort and the progress so far.

GOLF SOCIETY

In the Limerick Cup which was held in Adare Manor recently there was some very good golf played by members of the society. Timmy Sheehan had one of his best rounds of golf for the year so far with a fine score of 44 points, playing off eleven handicap. This equates to three over par. David Carroll had a score of 40 points in the same competition playing off 6 handicap ( 2 over par), and Aaron Moore won the Gross Prize. Alan Purcell had 40 points playing off 12 handicap in a recent Tuesday singles.

These boys are coming into form at the right time with some major competitions coming up within society and club.
