GOLF SOCIETY

We had our biggest turnout for many a day with our President, Sean Mc.Dermott’s prize being held in Portumna Golf Club. The weather was very kind to us with sunshine being the order of the day. The scoring was very close with just three points separating the top five cards. A special word of thanks to our sponsor for the day, Dick Fitz. of Superbites.

The results were, 1st. Gerry Murray 35 points. Category A, 1st Declan O’ Grady 35 points, 2nd Mick O’Connell 34 points. Category B, 1st Pat Dundon 33 points, 2nd Martin Ryan 31 points. Gross Prize Tom Dundon. Front 9, Alan Purcell 20 points, Back 9, Jim Buckley 19 points. Nearest the pin was won by Jim O’ Grady. Members please note that there is a change of date and venue from our original list of fixtures that you have already received. Our Cahir outing is now transferred to Nenagh Golf Club and will be held on Saturday July 11. Alan Purcell was in the prizes as was also Tommy Kelly in the Reathkeale Trophy held in Adare recently. Kieran Darcy and Damien Gillane were also in the prizes in the Kennelly Cup on the same day.

COMMUNITY PLAYSCHOOL

Patrickswell Community Playschool has been a great facility in both Patrickswell and the surrounding areas for the last 20 years, and ensures a safe transition into primary school for the children. Our Playschool now needs the help and support of the community. It has been downsized and moved on a number of occasions and this has caused stress for both the children and staff. These children have no voice in our community and it is up to the entire community to provide them with the highest standard of facilities and care that they deserve. The Committee and Staff of the Playschool have worked tirelessly to get a new building for the Children. We need the Community of Patrickswell to come together and help us. We will be funding for this New Playschool over the next couple of months and we ask that if you can support in any way you can, all support large or small would be appreciated. If we do not raise the required €50,000 by the end of the year, the playschool will have no option but to close. Please contact the committee on 061 215872or Theresa Griffin at the Playschool 087 6719303

THEATRE SCHOOL

A Stage Craft and Theatre School has been set up by Allison Cowpar-Boylan from Adare encompassing all aspects of Performance and Stage Craft, the idea being that an appreciation and love of the craft will be developed and fostered from an early age. The stage school will be opening in September and will showcase all its talent locally.
Two, two week summer camps will run from Monday July 13 until Saturday July 25, and from Monday July 27 until Saturday Aug 8 working with Peter Pan and the Wild Ones.

Contact Allison-Cowpar Boylan 087 9952605, or e-mail aliboylan@yahoo.co.uk for more details.

CONCERT

Weeks of preparation and rehearsals will come to a head this Saturday June 20, when another Rock n Roll concert rolls into town, this time to raise funds for Milford Hospice. Julie Darcy and friends have produced another concert which promises to live up to all previous expectations. Reliable information indicates that the Saw Doctors, Village People, and the Sugababes will be just a few of the international stars gracing the stage of the by now world renowned venue, more locally known as the Cu Chulainn . Proceedings will commence from the shrine at 7-30 with a cavalcade of limousines transporting the all star cast, flanked and escorted by outriders from Michael O’Brien and friends, and also the Dennis the Menace motorcycle club. To prevent congestion, the motorcade will turn at the church car park. The limousines for the occasion are being generously provided by Mick O’Flaherty of Askeaton, and Irish Diamond Limousines of Raheen. A bumper raffle has again been generously sponsored and a donation box is also available in the Cu Chulainn for those who cannot make it on the night, but who would still like to support this worthy cause. For those who will be there, admission is only €10, and the concert commences at 8-30pm. All patrons are advised to take their seats early for another not to be missed spectacular in the showbiz calendar of Patrickswell.
