ACTIVE RETIREMENT
Members recently enjoyed a full day of activities visiting the Burren, Ballyvaughn, Liscannor, and a local perfumery, and are already looking forward to their next outing.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL
The council would like to thank everyone for their generous contributions to the recent church gate collection. The County Council has been asked to investigate recent incidents of illegal dumping adjacent to Marian Park. If anyone has any problems in their own particular area which the community council can be of assistance in resolving, please contact one of the committee members. With regard to the proposed Partnership Plan for Patrickswell, submissions have been sent to Limerick County Council, and a copy of these will appear in next month’s newsletter.

FRIDAY CLUB
Meetings take place in the Resource House, every Friday from 3 to 5pm. All are welcome to call in for a friendly chat and a cup of tea. We are looking forward to using our newly purchased Bingo Machine to raise some funds over Christmas. On Wednesday, October 22, members enjoyed a banquet at Bunratty Castle. Mo Foley from West Limerick Resources has also been to see us, to get some ideas about what is missing in the village for the elderly.

TIDY TOWNS
We would like to thank the Community Council for the recent donation of €100 which was received on the night of our quiz. After extensive enquiries, we have recently made contact with the owners of the advertising site, adjacent to the bus stop opposite the Dragon I Chinese restaurant, with regard to the state of the boundary fence and hedging in that immediate area. It is pleasing to report that the company, J.C. Decaux of Dublin have responded to our appeal, and the derelict concrete posts and wire fencing have now been removed and replaced with timber fencing. This is another major job out of the way for next year, and has made a vast improvement to the overall appearance of the village approaching from the Limerick side.

GAA
Good luck to our Minor and U14 hurlers in their respective County Finals this weekend.
The under 14’s final against Adare will take place this Saturday November 8, and the replay of the Premier Minor Hurling Final against Na Piarshaig this Sunday November 9. Good wishes to all managers, players and mentors in their quest for County Honours.

BLOOD DONORS
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has called for donors to come forward to give blood. The service said donation rates have been slow in recent weeks, and it was unable to meet all demands for supplies from hospitals. It said in particular, blood stocks for groups A positive and O negative were needed. An estimated 16000 donations are required from now to the end of the year. Regular donors who have not given in the last ninety days, and those who have not given blood in the last three years are asked to come to their local clinics around the country. Local sessions are being held in Caherdavin on the 17th, Manister on the 18th, and Raheen on the 19th. For more information the Donor Info Line is 1850 731 137, or log onto I.B.T.S.
