TIDY TOWNS: Last week was a busy week for the group in preparation for the judging of Limerick in Bloom which is taking place this week. Despite the weather, there were seventeen out on Tuesday night, weeding flower beds, feeding baskets and containers, hedge cutting, grass cutting, strimming and picking litter. Noeleen Mulqueen was busy all week painting, using her artistic flair to brighten up the empty house on Main Street, with a half door, a cat and dog and flowers, and she has made a wonderful job of it. Tom Murphy has power hosed the wall at the rear of the shrine, and the red brick walls at the entrance to Rossville and the garda station. The GAA kindly removed all the bunting and signs relating to the Feile, and the outstanding items of stonework have also been completed. Thank you to everyone who has assisted or cooperated in any way. We will still need to keep everything in order even after this week, as we are still under scrutiny for the national Tidy Towns competition, which carries on through to August.
SYCAMORE HEIGHTS: As previously reported, the residents in Sycamore Heights are angry at the condition the grass areas at the approach to the estate have been left in following recent work there. Since the work has now been completed and the contractor appears to have vacated the site, the residents have now made a formal complaint to the relevant department at county hall, in an effort to ensure that the area is restored to its former condition.

GROW IT YOURSELF: Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food, will hold its July meeting in D&M Garden Centre, Croagh, on
Thursday July 19, at 7.30pm, with new growers and old hands all welcome. In a change to what was planned for this month due to the very wet weather, and with many gardens waterlogged, there will be a talk on keeping and caring for pigs and chickens, along with all the regular items we cover. During this meeting we will also be looking for people to volunteer their garden as our first visit of the growing season, weather permitting. This would take place on August 16 at a time best suited to the grower as part of our first visit to members’ gardens. GIY’s vision is for a healthier, more connected and more sustainable world where people grow their own food. The organisation brings people together in community groups and online to inspire and empower them to grow vegetables. More information from www.giyireland.com.
