TIDY TOWNS: Ideal weather conditions were in our favour this week, which enabled the completion of some of the more mundane tasks like weed spraying and strimming. Most, if not all of the village, roundabouts and approach roads have now been sprayed, which will hopefully have the desired effect in a few weeks time, and keep us relatively weed free for the time being. The council contractors have done a great job on the bridges at Attyflin and approaching from the racecourse. The mechanical road sweeper and crew made a very welcome reappearance last week, and many thanks to Michael O’Shea, supervisor at the Croom Area Office for arranging that, and also the repair of the railings between First Steps and the roundabout. The newly grassed area near the entrance to Shannon Development received a light trim just to check the weeds there, and is looking good, and with the recently planted roses and new kerbs has made another eye catching feature. All the containers and beds have been cleared and prepared ready for the arrival of the flowers for the summer planting scheme, together with forty hanging baskets which will soon be making their annual appearance.
