TIDY TOWNS: Our entries for the national Tidy Towns competition and Limerick in Bloom have now been submitted, and we are under no illusion that this year will certainly have its challenges. We are appealing therefore to all the businesses and those in the residential areas, to make a special effort to keep their own areas clean and tidy, in whatever way they can, especially where litter is concerned. We are well aware that a lot of effort still goes into the gardens, hanging baskets and window boxes, which have always been a feature throughout the village, providing a colourful and cared for environment, and makes a vital contribution to the overall appearance of the community at judging time. Community involvement is a major aspect of the national competition, and although we don’t expect to feature among the major players in our first year, we would still like to present our surroundings in the best light possible.

WALK:  Knockfierna Heritage Society will hold a walk to Knockfierna Hill on Sunday May 27 at 7.30pm, meeting at the newly thatched Rambling House.

Persons unable for the walk are welcome at the Rambling House.

DIGITAL SWITCHOVER: If you receive your television signal from an aerial, then you must take action before October 24 or risk your screen going blank! The Community Outreach Digital Switchover Programme is now operating across Co Limerick and aims to ensure that everyone is prepared for the switch particularly older people living alone and those with literacy or language difficulties. The initiative is heavily reliant on the Irish tradition of caring for our neighbours and we are asking communities to help identify those locally who will need assistance to make the switchover.  For further information contact Clint at West Limerick Resources on 069 62222, Annette Crowley at Ballyhoura Development on 063 91735 or Keith at Paul Partnership in the city on 061 419388.
