Patrickswell news for w/e June 15th.


CHURCH NOTICES: Listed readers for this weekend, June 16-17, The Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, are as follows, Saturday at 7pm Dan Riordan, Sunday at 10am PJ O’Grady, and Sunday at 12noon Michael Punch. Eucharistic Ministers,Saturday at 7pm, Christy Murphy, Rita Madigan, Joe Tierney. Weekday masses are at the usual time of 9-30am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place at 8 pm on Monday and all are welcome. There will be no weekly Parish Newsletter for the time being.

COLLECTION: Sisters Consilio and Agnes Fitzgerald of Cuan Mhuire, Bruree, would sincerely like to thank the parishioners of Patrickswell and surrounding areas for their very generous contributions in their recent church gate collection, it is much appreciated in these hard times. 

 BLOOD DONORS: The O+ blood group is at just over four days supply, and donations are now needed. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding donor clinics in the following locations during the coming week; Caherconlish Community Centre, on Monday June 18 from 6 to 9pm, Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road, on Wednesday June 20 from 6 to 9pm, where recruitment for the bone marrow registry will also be taken, and at the Community Centre, Pallasgreen, on Thursday June 21, also from 6 to 9pm.You can visit any blood donor clinic as long as ninety days have elapsed since you last gave blood, and you are urged to please give regularly. BIRTHDAY MEMORIES: Rosie Long, late of Ballylusky, Patrickswell, is fondly and affectionately remembered this week on the occasion of her birthday. Her family would like to take this opportunity to thank her many friends and neighbours who were so kind and helpful to them at the time of Rosie’s passing. May God Bless you all.

RECYCLING: The European Recycling Platform will be holding Free Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment collections at the Castletroy Shopping Centre, Dublin Road, this Friday June 15, and at Tesco Car Park, Coonagh, this Saturday June 16, both from 10am until 4pm.

DONKEY DERBY: The Community Council will be hosting a Fun Day at McSweeney’s Farm, Collopy’s Cross, on Sunday July 1 commencing at 1pm. Attractions on the day will include a vintage tractor display, barbecue and refreshments, bouncy castles, bric-a-brac and book stalls. The main feature of the day’s proceedings will be a Donkey Derby, and to register entries or to book a stall, contact the Resource Centre on 061-320303. The community council is committed to the provision of a community centre for Patrickswell, and all proceeds from the event will go to the development fund, which in time will enable them to provide that necessary facility for our community. They are seeking as many volunteers as possible to help on the day, and a public meeting will be held for volunteers on Monday June 18 at 8.30pm in the Resource Centre. Thanks to those who have helped in the past, they would really appreciate your help again on this occasion.

CAMP BOSCO: Running for over twenty years at Salesian College, Pallaskenry, Camp Bosco will take place from Monday July3 until Friday July 20 from 1.30 to 5.30pm. The camp caters for five to fifteen year olds with the help of Salesian College    secondary school students. The camp will cost €60 per week per child. Buses are available from Dooradoyle to Glin at a charge of €25 per week per person, with two new stops this year in Loughill and Glin. Camp Bosco caters for a variety of activities including: Swimming, Water Games, Olympic size trampoline, Canoeing, Arts and Crafts Workshop, Hip Hop Dance, Team challenges, Orienteering, Airtrack, Special games for younger age groups, and lots more. GOLF SOCIETY: Our Mid Summer outing took place recently in the scenic surroundings of Castleisland, where Sammy Sunshine was beating down on us for the day. The course was playing long and tough, but the man who tamed the course best was Brian Geoghegan who is showing some great form this season. The results were as follows.1st Brian Geoghegan 36points, 2nd Gerry McDermott 34points, 3rd Mark Leahy 33points, 4th Ger Considine 33points, 5th John McDermott 33points, 6th Seamus Enright 32points. Front 9 Gerry Molyneaux, Back 9 Benny Nolan. The remaining outings for the year are as follows; Saturday July 28th Adare Manor, Saturday August 18th Castlemartyr, Ger Considine’s Captain’s Prize, and Saturday September 22nd Salthill, Jim O’Grady’s President’s Prize.

SUMMER SOLSTICE: Lough Gur Summer Solstice festival and Week of Welcomes runs from Thursday June 21 to 28. The festival is a weeklong programme of events and activities including drama, music, poetry, dance, choir music, guided walks, genealogy workshop, arts and crafts, skittles and more. There is the family festival day on Sunday June 24, by the lake at Lough Gur with a Roman Army re-enactment group, Fanzini brothers, face painting, stilt walkers, and creative dance in the heritage centre. More details are available on www.loughgur.comor 087 285 2022.

REACHING OUT: West Limerick Resources are delighted to announce that John Joe Conwell from Ireland Reaching Out Headquarters will hold an information session on Thursday June 28 in the Rathkeale House Hotel at 7.30pm.  Offering an opportunity for individuals and communities to learn how they can get involved and benefit from the initiative, the event is free of charge and open to all. Ireland Reaching Out is an Irish government sponsored initiative established to connect people of Irish heritage abroad with the parish where their ancestors originated from in Ireland.  It will offer local parish communities an extraordinary opportunity to extend the numbers of people committed to their parish by inviting its own Diaspora worldwide to become involved in their place of origin.
