TIDY TOWNS:
We discovered last week that four of the shaped shrubs in the bed adjacent to the wall at the roundabout, had become victims of the severe winter weather, and had to be removed. It was decided to replace them with lavender plants which hopefully wont take too long to establish, and will require less maintenance in the future. Our main focus this week will be to prepare the wall at the roundabout for planting which will require no less than sixty two grow bags.

FAMILIES:

This Sunday May 15 is promoted by the United Nations as International Day of Families, and has been observed since 1995. This year’s theme is, “Confronting Family Poverty and Social Exclusion”, and the main aim of the day is to celebrate the importance of families, people, societies and cultures around the world.
The symbol of the International Day of Families consists of a solid green circle with an image in red. The image consists of elements of simple drawings of a heart and a house. This indicates that families are the centre of society and provide a stable and supporting home for people of all ages.

WTISD:
Tuesday May 17 is World Telecommunication and Information Society day, the purpose of which is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
The day marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in1865, and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union.
Half the world’s population resides in rural districts and far flung communities, three billion people who represent the poorer, less educated, and more deprived cousins of our urban citizens. This year’s theme, “Better life in rural communities with ICTs, is aimed at meeting the Millennium Development Goals to provide enhanced opportunities to generate income and combat poverty, hunger, ill health and illiteracy.
GOLF SOCIETY:
Our next outing is this Saturday May 14 at Roscrea with tee-off times from 11am until 12-30pm.
