SENIOR HELP LINE
This is a confidential listening service for older people by older people. Trained older volunteers offer a friendly, listening and non-judgemental ear to all callers, who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation, family or health worries, or suffering abuse or depression. The service operates from 10am to 4pm, and 7pm to 10pm every day of the year, and is only the price of a local call, LoCall 1850-440-444. Gardai are urging family and friends to warn the elderly within their community of the dangers these despicable people present, and to remind them that they should never let anyone into their homes that they have not called for or are not sure of. Even photographic identity and so called genuine credentials can be suspect, and they should be encouraged to phone a neighbour or the gardai before entering into any conversation with these callers.
