CREDIT UNION SCHOOLS QUIZ 2010

Now in its 19th year, the annual Credit Union Schools Quiz Competition is one of the most popular and successful promotions undertaken by the Credit Union movement. Over 25,000 pupils compete, both North and South, making it the biggest competition in Ireland for either adults or children. The Schools Quiz is not only about involving Credit Unions with their members and potential members, or just about winning, but it’s also about learning and teamwork for all entrants. It’s about investing in our children’s future.

MPCC Credit Union will be holding their preliminary round of the 2010 quiz on Saturday, January 30 in Mungret / St. Paul’s GAA Club and teams from the seven local primary schools within the common bond have been invited to participate. There will be two separate age-group categories and the winning teams from each category will progress to the regional stage of the competition. Winners and runners-up from this stage will then qualify for the National Final. Last year a team from St. Nessan’s National School made it all the way to the National Final. Hopefully another local team can go one step further and win the National title this year. Best of luck to all the children who take part and a special thanks to their parents and teachers for their assistance and co-operation.

MUINTIREAS

As the harsh winter conditions continue, it is vitally important to continue to look out for the more vulnerable members of our community. Please heed the call to check on neighbours who are elderly, sick or housebound, or isolated and lonely, and who may be in need of assistance, or just reassurance that they can contact someone if the need arises.

Call to see if they are keeping warm, or need any shopping. Make sure they are able to have at least one hot meal a day, and are able to provide themselves with plenty of hot drinks. A friendly call or a visit can make all the difference.
