SCHOOL NEWS
Members of the school's Green Flag Team and the winners of a Green Schools project competition visited Mr. Binman's premises at Luddenmore, Grange, Co. Limerick earlier this term. They gained many new insights into recycling during a tour of the state-of-art plant hosted by the company's Environmental Officer. Mr Binman treated the pupils to lunch in the canteen afterwards. Pupils' work was on display at the local Art Gallery last month. The work on show was selected by Maurice Clarke and his staff from a massive entry of over 200 pieces. Prizes were presented to the winning artists. The Blueberry Perpetual Cup which was presented to 6th Class pupil Ling Li Zeng for her magnificent painting of a vase of flowers. It was Easter Eggs all round for pupils who knew their 'tables' at the 2009 Table Toppers competition hosted by Mr. O Connor in Patrickswell School Hall. There were 3 winners from each class. The overall winner was Shane Mulcahy. A new prayer composed for the pupils during Catholic Week in Schools helps pupils make good decisions in difficult situations. It is great to hear that the prayer, which reminds people to ask themselves 'What Would Jesus Do?' (WWJD?) whenever they are in doubt about how to act, is proving popular beyond the school walls. The prayer goes as follows; W.W.J.D.? W.W.J. Do? God our Father please help me to do what Christ would do.
YOUNG FILM MAKERS
“What is Poverty?” is a short documentary film by senior pupils that explores people's ideas about poverty and discovers that rich people can be poor-- and that there's a lot more to poverty than a lack of money or resources! The film had its first public screening at Storm Cinema last month and won two national awards. This was a fantastic achievement by the boys and girls of 5th/6th Class. Immediately after the results were announced, Poppy Hilll the 5th Class pupil who presented the documentary, was whisked off to the Limerick RTE studios to be interviewed for the “News Today” programme.
