AN POST RÁS:
Main Street was a hive of activity and excitement last Tuesday morning for the much anticipated Stage three of this year’s An Post Rás, an annual eight day stage cycling race which takes place around Ireland. The Rás has a worldwide reputation of being one of the more challenging tours in the elite international calendar. Many turned out to see the cyclists passing through en-route from Kilrush to Castleisland, which also included a sprint at Patrickswell Post Office. Luckily the weather stayed fine for the occasion. The following day’s route was from Castleisland to Castletownbere, and local hurler Barry Foley joined other inter-county footballers and hurlers for a major new cycling challenge called RACE THE RÁS. The object of their participation is to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Charity and Goal. Barry would like to thank everyone who sponsored him, especially Duggans and all the Patrickswell businesses, and family and friends for their generosity.

TIDY TOWNS:
We were very pleased to take on another recruit last week in the form of Alan Bunworth from Sycamore Heights, who joined us on Tuesday for our weekly work night, and he is very welcome too. It has been a busy and hectic week, with the area adjacent to the bus stop being weeded, levelled and seeded, and the area adjacent to the railings at the roundabout has also been reseeded. Other areas were weeded and containers prepared. On Friday the plants arrived, and the planting team swung into operation. Baskets were planted, plus the roundabout at Marian Park working away until six o’clock. At nine o’clock on Saturday morning a fleet of vehicles brought plants to the wall at the roundabout, and distributed bags of compost to various other locations, and by ten thirty all planting was complete and baskets hung. Over one thousand five hundred plants found new homes during the course of the two days. Thanks to everyone for their commitment and enthusiasm. We also sent off our application form for the Limerick in Bloom competition this week.
