ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS:
Eventually, after thirty five years of dedication, and a never give up attitude, Mary Shinnors has finally been rewarded for her enthusiastic commitment, and involvement with local dancing as the Patrickswell Set Dancers were crowned All Ireland Champions in the Senior Scor Finals in Killarney at the weekend. During those years, Patrickswell were in second place no less than nineteen times. A huge crowd of supporters were in attendance at the INEC to witness the championship performance, and in a matter of seconds of the result being announced, text messages were flying to relay the news to all back home, which was received with great joy and excitement. Muirne Bennis was also instrumental in the preparation of the team of, John McDermott, Dessie Foley, David Enright, Michael Shinnors, Sarah Foley, Aedin Foley, Gloria O’Donnell and Paula Griffin. On arriving back at the Cu Chulainn, where celebrations had already commenced, a reception committee gave the champions a resounding welcome. Needless to say, festivities are ongoing.

TIDY TOWNS:
Our Spring Clean went ahead as planned last Tuesday, with fine weather in our favour. We would like to thank Trisha, Kathryn and Stephanie who responded to our appeal for volunteers to assist, and we had sufficient numbers to split into two teams and the Clarina Road and Croom Road were targeted. In just over an hour, sixteen bags of other people’s rubbish had been collected. It was perfect timing, as in less than an hour after we had finished the heavens opened and there was a terrific downpour. We also enjoyed fine weather at the weekend for our annual church gate collection, and are grateful for your generous response. The total raised was just over E1000, for which we thank you most sincerely. We also take this opportunity to congratulate Marie and Liam Foley who had three family members in the victorious All Ireland Set Dancing team, son Dessie, daughter-in-law Aedin, and daughter Sarah.

CREDIT UNION:
The offices of MPCC Credit Union will be open as follows over Easter. Thursday April 21: Patrickswell 2pm – 7pm, Dooradoyle 10am – 7pm and Mungret 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm. All offices will be closed on Good Friday April 22. Saturday April 23: Dooradoyle and Mungret, 10am – 12 noon. All offices will be closed on Easter Monday April 25. Normal opening hours resume on Tuesday, April 6. The Board of Directors and staff wish all members a very happy Easter.
Congratulations to the under-13 team from Crecora National School who performed so well in the recent National Final of the Credit Unions School Quiz, which took place in the RDS in Dublin. The team of Eoin Moore, Cian Leahy and Thomas Keating representing MPCC Credit Union finished fifth overall in their category, only four points behind the overall winners. Over 25,000 school children under the age of 13 began the competition in over 300 venues throughout the 32 counties of Ireland making it one of the most popular and successful promotions undertaken by the credit union movement, therefore it was a great achievement for the boys to have made it through to the national final after winning both their local and regional heats and to have come so close to scooping the national title.

ZUMBA CLASSES:
Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements, creating a dynamic, exciting, exhilarating and effective fitness system. A Zumba class combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body, and the dance movements are easy-to-follow steps targeting various body areas especially the heart.  A Zumba class creates a party-like atmosphere that provides a non-intimidating opportunity for non-dancers and veterans alike to exercise in a healthy, fun and open environment, great for both body and mind.  Cathriona Murphy will be starting a class in Patrickswell on Tuesday April 19 from 8 to 9pm in the GAA Hall.  Tel. 087 2666060 or email cathriona.murphy@gmail.com

DAYLIGHT ROBBERIES:
There has been a spate of incidents recently, in which criminals are targeting rural and isolated premises to steal property and belongings. While this in itself is nothing new, the incidents are taking place during day light hours, and also in some cases while the owners are still on the premises. This is a frightening aspect for anyone, but more so for elderly people living on their own or in isolated areas. Gardai are continually issuing warnings and advice, and neighbours are asked to be particularly vigilant, to look out for each other, and to report unfamiliar vehicles or people acting suspiciously.

GOLF SOCIETY:
Our next outing of the season is this Saturday, April 16, at Castleisland, with tee-off times from 10 to 11-30.
