Patrickswell news for w/e February 20th

CHURCH NOTICES
Listed readers for masses this coming weekend, February 21-22, are as follows; Saturday at 7pm Dan Riordan, Sunday at 10am P.J.O’Grady, Sunday at 12noon Lena Mary Houlihan. Eucharistic Ministers, Saturday at 7pm M.Houlihan, J.Collopy, M.Bucke. Sunday at 10am, K.Enright, R.Kelliher. Sunday at 12noon M.McDermott, E.O’Shea, R.Fitzgerald. Please arrange a replacement if you are unable to fulfill any duty allocated to you. Weekday masses are at 9-30 am Monday to Friday. The weekly prayer meeting takes place on Monday evening from 8 to 9pm and all are welcome.

SENIOR CITIZENS
The annual social will take place this coming Friday, February 20, in the Cu Chulainn Lounge, commencing with mass at 7pm, followed by dinner, dancing and entertainment. If anyone needs transport to and from the function please contact Liam Shinnors or Christy Murphy.

CONCERT

With all receipts in, and all expenses accounted for, the proceeds from the Christmas concert have now been donated to Limerick Animal Welfare, and the Senior Citizens.

MUSICAL
Congratulations to Jamey Sheehan who recently starred in the role of “Corey Palmer”, when the students of Colaiste Chiarain, Croom staged their production of the musical
Back to the 80s, at the University Concert Hall.

TIDY TOWNS
Would all members please note that this month’s meeting is the AGM, and will commence at 8pm in the Cu Chulainn, this Tuesday February 24.

WEST LIMERICK RESOURCES
The Rural Development Programme, also known as LEADER, is designed to target resources to support improvements to the quality of life in rural areas and the diversification and development of the rural economy. It was recently announced by the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Eamon O Cuiv, that West Limerick Resources will be allocated almost €10million under the 2007-2013 programme which is worth €425 million nationally. Contracts have now been signed and West Limerick Resources are planning a number of workshops in locations across West Limerick to promote both the Programme and the application process to individual entrepreneurs, small businesses and community groups in the West Limerick area.
Evening workshops outlining these supports will be held at 7.30pm as follows,
Tuesday February 17th – Fr Casey’s GAA Club House Abbeyfeale, Thursday February 19th–Askeaton Community Centre, Tuesday February 24th – Knockaderry Community Hall, Thursday February 26th - Adare Parish Hall, Tuesday March 3rd – Desmond Complex Newcastle West.

If you are considering applying for funding, please attend one of the workshops as a starting point. Please note that West Limerick Resources is unable to support sports clubs and organizations. A number of areas will be targeted under this Programme including:
Increasing economic activity in the rural economy
Supporting the creation and development of micro-enterprises in the rural economy
Encouraging rural tourism based on the sustainable development of natural resources and the cultural and natural heritage
Improving access to basic services for rural dwellers
Regenerating rural villages by improving economic prospects, community relations and quality of life
Maintaining, restoring and upgrading the natural and built heritage

INTERESTED IN DANCE
On the five Mondays in March, local dance instructor Lisa Cahill will run dance classes in Patrickswell GAA hall from 10-11.30am. Promoting fitness and fun this is a trial to see if local women have an interest in a group like this. To register please contact Mo on 087 9915873.

PATRICKSWELL’S FRIDAY CLUB
Operating each Friday from 3-5pm this is an opportunity for older people to meet up for a chat and a cuppa, play cards and bingo or get involved in the monthly book club or one of our outings. For more information, contact Evelyn on 061 215755. A new chiropody service is also available to members on a three month trial and costs €10 for members. Contact May on 087 6550044.

RURAL BUS SERVICE
Rural Bus currently runs a morning service every second Thursday from Askeaton to Dooradoyle Shopping Centre. Individuals in Patrickswell who may be interested in having the bus also serve their town are asked to contact Mo on 087 9915873 or Evelyn at the Friday Club on 086 2507273. The service also operates a route from Askeaton to Desmond Complex, Newcastle West on the second Wednesday of each month. For these services to remain operational new users are required.

COMMUNITY GROUP TRAINING NEEDS
The Volunteer Support Service will run a series of training programmes for community and voluntary groups covering a variety of useful topics. First Aid Training (in conjunction with the VEC) will take place in Askeaton on February 24th and 25th, and in Newcastle West on March 3rd and 4th. In addition Therapeutic Hand Massage Training will take place in Newcastle West on February 21st. Contact Paul on 069 79079 or email pmoriarty@wlr.ie.


HEALTH AND HEALING COURSE
The application to the County Limerick VEC for a tutor to run a Health and Healing course in the Community Resource House was successful. It will start on 25th February and will run for 10 weeks. GRANNY OF THE YEAR
In 2009 Special Olympics Ireland will run a national fundraising campaign. One of the major elements of the 2009 Support an Athlete campaign will be the All-Ireland Granny of the Year contest. Help support Special Olympics Ireland by nominating your granny for the extra special title of Granny of the Year 2009! Now’s your chance to tell the world why you think your Granny is simply the best!
