TIDY TOWNS
Happy New Year to all our friends and supporters. Our first job for 2009 was to remove the last remaining evidence of Christmas. The tree at the Garda Station (many thanks for their co-operation) was taken down last Saturday, and the lights put into storage for another year, along with the lights from the trees at the shrine. Again we would like to thank everyone involved for their time and effort in helping to make the village so attractive during the festive season. In particular we acknowledge our two great stalwarts, Vince Doherty and Mossie Carmody for their unstinting and ongoing assistance, John Fitzgerald at Fitzgerald’s Electrical for his generosity in providing the new lights for use at the shrine, and Jim O’Herlihy for his generosity in allowing us to use his power supply. We are indebted to you all. Some items regarding the County Council’s budget for 2009 have recently come to our attention, and we were pleased to note that they will be continuing with the Limerick in Bloom Competition, together with a prize fund of €10,000, and we will be pulling out all the stops to retain the number one position we achieved last year. Already we have received offers from people who are keen to get involved and help out in any way they can. Our local county councillor, Leonard Enright has indicated his support too, and we have submitted a wish list for his attention. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to further improve the locality we will be delighted to hear from you. We bid Angus Houston a fond farewell as he leaves his position as General Manager of Limerick Racecourse to take up the post of Executive Director of the Ricoh Stadium in Coventry. Angus was very supportive of our fund raising efforts, in his and our formative years, and many will still remember that bitterly cold St. Stephen’s Day when we sang carols on the first day of racing at Greenmount. Good luck Angus in your new venture.
SCHOOL
The Parents Association will be holding a Table Quiz in The Cu Chulainn on Friday, January 30.
RURAL BUS SERVICE
Rural Bus runs a morning service every second Thursday into Dooradoyle Shopping Centre from Askeaton. If people in Patrickswell are interested in seeing the service come through the village and making use of it, would they contact Mo Foley at West Limerick Resources on 087-9915873 or Evelyn Doran of the Friday Club on 086-2507273. We need a list of names to take to Rural Bus. If people have a bus pass this is valid on Rural Bus, if not, one bus trip costs €2.50.
NEW ARRIVALS
Congratulations to James and Breda McCarthy the proud parents of twin boys, Daniel and Andrew, who made their appearance during the festive season a little earlier than expected on December 27. Their arrival has also made Dan and Helen Riordan proud grandparents for the first time, and they are delighted with the additions to their family. We wish them all good luck, good health and every happiness.
